Title needs a change

[edit]

"Up" in the article title should have a capital U because, in its context, this word is an adverb, not a preposition. How does one edit an article title? The title doesn't show in the typing window on the edit page. Cognita 04:24, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That would require announcing the change here on the talk page, wait a few days for eventual consensus (or lack of response) and posting the change on the requested moves page (WP:RM) as the desired article name is already occupied by a redirect and would need an admin's power to alter. Requested move

[edit]

Propose that the article be moved per the above argument by User:Cognita. Anyone have strong feelings and good reason why not? Murghdisc. 02:47, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been renamed from Bringing up Father to Bringing Up Father as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 11:45, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Jiggs and Maggie" or "Maggie and Jiggs"

[edit]

The lead said, "Some readers...called the strip Maggie and Jiggs..." Surely Jiggs and Maggie is far more common, though? Google gives over 750,000 hits for "Jiggs and Maggie" against 250,000 for "Maggie and Jiggs". "Jiggs and Maggie" is on the title page of the comic in one of the illustrations, as well as in the titles of four movie sequels. I have changed the sentence in the lead and one section heading on that basis. Scolaire (talk) 12:48, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

the comic book titles for it were called "Jiggs and Maggie", FWIW. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.188.33.25 (talk) 23:57, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I happened to meet Hal Campagna last night. As he introduced himself, he asked if I had ever heard of "Jiggs and Maggie." I should also mention that Mr. Campagna was born in 1912 and is very nearly 100-years-old. We talked at some length while standing in a bar for perhaps 15 or 20 minutes. He's in remarkable shape! Cast

[edit]

Bringing Up Father had a large and colorful cast, generally with names that told the reader something about them, such as Titus Canby and Miss Holly Woodstar. If anybody has proper sources to cite, I think that adding a section listing some of them would be an excellent addition to this article. Alas, all I have is my personal reccolections, or I'd take a stab at it myself.JDZeff (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:49, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A movie should be added

[edit]

Teuvo Tulio made a movie based on this comic way back in 1939 already. Just because it's a Finnish movie isn't a reason to not include it in the list.

A missing character

[edit]

In the late 1960s, I remember a new character was introduced: Jiggs' (or Maggie's) hippie nephew originally named Tripper, but soon changed to Groover (probably because "Tripper" was objectionable for a family newspaper comic because it refers to illicit drug use). I assume this was probably a replacement for the "lazy son" Ethelbert who must have become an absentee in the 1960s. Any chance anyone can find a reliable source for this? I found a Chalk Character of Maggie, very old! Not sure how old it is! 104.219.136.63 (talk) 20:11, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
