Talk:Brigadier George Taylor CBE, DSO & Bar, KHS
Appearance
The contents of the Brigadier George Taylor CBE, DSO & Bar, KHS page were merged into George Taylor (soldier) . For the contribution history and old versions of the merged article please see its history. |
As I doubt that the word "Brigadier" and the acronyms "CBE, DSO & Bar, KHS" appeared on the man's birth certificate, I have merged this article with George Taylor (soldier) per WP:NAME. Please do not change it back. Thank you. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 11:57, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Why not just "Brigadier George Taylor"? Thats what was listed on all his obituaries in The Independent, The Times and The Telegraph? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dwilliams1972 (talk • contribs) 13:52, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, and the obituaries also said President Ronald Reagan. The final argument is the fact the word "Brigadier" does not appear on the man's birth certificate. It is a title which he had to earn, not a part of his name nor a pseudonym. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 16:20, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- User:Blanchardb is following the Wikipedia guidelines for this issue, found at WP:NAME, WP:NAMEPEOPLE and WP:NCNT. They all say that firstname lastname are appropriate for this article title, along with (soldier) to disambiguate, with the other titles and honorifics mentioned in the article's lead sentence. That's where the article sits at present. Regards, Chuckiesdad/Talk/Contribs 20:46, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Please keep in mind that the reason for this is to have Wikipedia-wide consistency with regard to naming conventions. If we allow one person to add the word "brigadier" at his whim and it isn't done for other biographical entries because of the whims of the people who created them, then Wikipedia, as a whole, would be a mess with regard to lookups. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 03:39, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
