Article name change to 'Brisbane river crossings'?

[edit]

Now that a tunnel is on the way (I think), should this article be moved to Brisbane River crossings? Or maybe something different.--Commander Keane 10:05, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the article should remain exclusively for Brisbane's bridges.
The tunnel underneath the Brisbane River could be added to the main Brisbane River article for now - with the possibility of, perhaps, later creating a specific article for Brisbane's tunnels (which could include the tunnel beneath the Brisbane River). Figaro 01:43, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Commander Keane for the sake of completeness. It would also include links to the ferries I suppose. However, there is a specific page for the tunnels already - TransApex, with links to each one. SM247My Talk 02:49, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Missing bridges (upstream)

[edit]

What about bridges further upstream, such as Colleges Crossing, Mount Crosby Wier, Kholo Bridge (each have at least one side in Brisbane, and cross the Brisbane River). (See UBD Map 193 / 194) or Maps (though not named google maps)

Unnamed bridge

[edit]

According to the book The Brisbane River: A pictoral history this bridge is actually called the Indooroopilly Railway Bridge. It opened in 1895, two years after the 1893 floods destroyed the previous railway bridge, which was called the Albert Railway Bridge. Still in use today, it makes the Indooroopilly Railway Bridge the oldest bridge to cross the Brisbane River. I will update this page and the Brisbane bridges template as well as add some excellent historical references to the Brisbane River page, asap. - Shiftchange (talk) 11:50, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

McMullens Road ford

[edit]

The coords for this are actually for Kholo Crossing, probably a copy-and-paste error, so I removed them. I cannot find McMullen Road on a map, but from the description of being between Borallon and Lake Manchester, I suspect it is 27°29′58″S 152°42′33″E / 27.49938°S 152.70915°E / -27.49938; 152.70915 which is near (the significantly named) Hills Crossing Reserve (according to Google Maps and when you look in satellite mode, there is a definite shallow area which appears to roughly correspond with the ends of two roads on either side of the river. Can anyone confirm those coords? and provide an explanation of why it's called McMullen's Road? Kerry (talk) 04:30, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bridge Confusion

[edit]

Could somebody from Brisbane with an interest in railways please review the entries for the two Albert Bridges and the Indooroopilly Railway Bridge. One article says HC Stanley built the original in 1876, which seems unlikely, and another that IRB replaced the lost Albert bridge: again, not true, it added to the replacement Albert. On this page, and the main articles, the same image is clearly being used to illustrate two quite different bridges. Protozoon (talk) 08:37, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think the photos are of the two different bridges; they are similar-looking photos but they are similar looking bridges from that angle. But the supports of the Jack Pesch bridge are visible on the right in the Albert Bridge photo and there are two stone supports on the Indro side and the top is mildly curved, and there's only one stone support on the IRB photo and the top is straight. I agree it would be nicer to get more distinctive photos of those bridges but they are hemmed in between the Jack Pesch and Walter Taylor making it a bit tricky to photograph them now. 06:59, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Kholo Bridge Image

[edit]

Is the Kholo Bridge image actually the Mount Crosby weir? 139.130.187.106 (talk) 04:05, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Geoff Fisher Bridge

[edit]

Google Maps, street view shows a sign with the name "Geoff Fisher Bridge" for the Brisbane Valley Highway, at 27⁰26'13"S 152⁰38'00"E (between Banks Creek Road and Wivenhoe Pocket Road). Is this sufficient authority to update the entry for this crossing?

Yes. Done. The Bridge Name is already shown in the Brisbane Valley Highway article. Downsize43 (talk) 09:07, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
