Famous, a peacock term?

[edit]

There are many bells associated with the Ryukyu Kingdom. This one is not just a bell, some bell, one of many; it is assuredly the most famous one, and I think that's an important thing to impart to the reader, quickly, succinctly, directly in the introduction.

Had I written that it was magnificently beautiful, that would be a use of peacock terms.

Let's see how the Liberty Bell is described: "The Liberty Bell... is one of the most prominent symbols of the American Revolutionary War. It is a familiar symbol of independence within the United States..." So, it's not outright described as "famous", but words like prominent and familiar are used - the importance is placed right there in the introduction. I am trying to do the same thing - remove the word "famous" and it becomes just 'a' bell. LordAmeth (talk) 19:05, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
