As requested, here are the three citations that establish notability:
- As a writer, there is Michiko Kakutani's NYT story on the best veteran authors to come from Iraq and Afghanistan: https://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/26/books/human-costs-of-the-forever-wars-enough-to-fill-a-bookshelf.html
- And CJ Chiver's profile of Castner in the NYT, when the opera based on Castner was premiering: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/10/magazine/an-iraq-veterans-homecoming-with-arias.html
- And then to establish his notability as a war crimes investigator for Amnesty International, there are any number of appearances as an expert on cable news: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDofRBLGNng , https://www.democracynow.org/2019/3/21/the_hidden_us_air_war_in , https://www.democracynow.org/2020/6/18/police_tear_gas_amnesty_international
I know I am new to writing at wikipedia, but I am confused by what counts as "promotional" rather than establishing notability. Castner wrote 5 books and won awards. The wikipedia pages of his war author contemporaries, like Brian Turner, or Matt Gallagher and Phil Klay and Kayla Williams, who are mentioned in the Kakutani piece, seem to use books and awards as the basis for the article?
