Vandalism
[edit]Hello, now I have never really edited wikipedia before, just fixing some small typos here and there but someone keeps injecting some racist and antisemitic things in this article making Alters look like he wrote an article on 'Jews and Blacks'. So I'd like to revert to my fixed version, and would please request that this article be locked immediately. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.151.166.48 (talk) 08:09, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
McNeil medal
[edit]Might it be appropriate to add that Alters received the 2009 McNeil Medal for the Public Awareness of Science from the Royal Society of Canada? See McGill's press release here.Glenn Branch (talk) 23:14, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
- Actually I think the article would be better if it just told us why this person is important. These sorts of awards and medals are given out yearly. The fact that someone received one conveys very little to someone outside the field.BigJim707 (talk) 07:36, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- Winning a medal like this is pretty much the definitional of notability in any academic or substantive domain. It sure beats the heck out a lot of popular and evanescent silliness that seems to pass for notability, since it is an award given by an authoritative panel based on objective measures of outstanding achievement in science education.
