Most statistics about the Canary Islands come from the "Instituto Canario de Estadistica" a department of the "Gobierno de Canarias". Their home page is at [[1]] and the statistics are accessed from a sub page directly accessed at [[2]].

There is a vast amount of information on Geography, Population, Work, Health, Education, Culture, Justice, Urbanization, Primary, Secondary and Service industries,Tourism, Public Sector, Economics and Technology

Unfortunately, the sub-pages do not have their own URLs, so direct links to statistics cannot be given, they have to be found from the access page, and all information is in Spanish. To give two examples, starting from the "Estadisticas" page:-

To find the official area, coastline length, altitude etc of a municipality:-

  • Select "Territorio y Medio Ambiente"
  • Select "Territorio" in the left box and "Superficie, perimetro ..." etc. in the right box and scroll down to the required municipality

To find historical population data of a municipality:-

  • Select "Poblacion"
  • Select "Padron municipal" in the left box and " Evolucion historica ..." etc. in the right box - 2 more boxes appear
  • Select the correct municipality in the left box and "Poblacion" in the right
