I remember years ago (probably just after his death), a segment appeared on Unsolved Mysteries. But they said (and I've read in several sources) that the fatal shooting did not occur while cameras rolled, but while Brandon and a couple other folks were playing around with the gun. Where did Brandon learn to fight?

Does Brandon Lee have any formal martial arts training, or is he merely the product of stage performance? I was hoping to find more information regarding this in the ariticle.

He was trained in Jeet Kune Do. He began to train with his father ever since he could walk and furthered his training through friend Danny Inosanto.

He started training with his father at age 3 in 1968 until age 8 in 1973. He was considered a brown belt in skills at the time of his fathers death. Box office Smash / modest box office hit

most every movie i've seen since 1994 has referenced (or plain replicated) David Schow's "The Crow". Comics often carry these same motifs, but In the part that discribes his death, there is written that The Crow was "a box office smash", however, on the page about The Crow (film) it says the film was "a modest box office hit". How about some figures to show how much it grossed?

A couple of things;

Secondly, is there really any point to this huge quote which ostensibly has absolutely no relevance to Brandon Lee? It doesn't even mention him.

I agree. It doesn't even mention Brandon, rather a character that was associated with the series. I think that needs to be edited down to parts that are appropriate to Brandon's role.

- I agree with the other person. I worried where the links went, and find what wikipedia says on links not matching what you have done. These links should be listed. There are other celebrities sites on wikipedia that have extenal links that would be called fan sites and are factual, and since when is IMDB and an autographs page(which is run by a fan) unbias? That information is itself written like wikipedia by fans.

Death section

it also needs to state what film it was, that his death happened during. i know it's the crow, and most people will know this, but i came to this page today, clicked the death link in the contents box, was taking down to the death section and i began reading. there was nothing stating what film... the death section carries on from the section above, which finishes with info about the crow. you can't assume people will read the whole page in one go, i for one, never, and was left a bit confused. the film needs to be stated. each section should be a section on its own, not a follow on from the section above, otherwise there's no point in the contents box. 194.221.133.226 (talk) 10:01, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

I remember reading a while ago that Brandon actually got shot in Wilmington, NC where they were shooting The Crow but he was taken to (and died at) Onslow Memorial Hospital, which is about 45 minutes away in Jacksonville, NC. Once again, I have read so many different things on Bruce and Brandon, off the top of my head, I can not think of the reference for this. I remember being taken to that hospital when I lived in Jacksonville, and doped up on medicine, I asked why they didn't have a plaque or something mentioning this notable death.  :) Does anyone know of this? Not the U.S. gouvernment killed him, i think it was the "Sun Yee On" Triade. They also killed the manager of Jet Li in 1993. And Betty Ting-Pei was married to Charles Heung, who is suspected to be the head of this Triade. Read about this in your english wikipedia. Way better than the german one. That's fairly ridiculous. However, one of the actors from the movie said during a phone interview that police had corrected their assessment that Lee had been shot by a .44 pistol round, and had been instead shot by a .44 rifle round. It's feasible that one of the things that led to the bullet being lodged in the barrel was the use of a longer heavier bullet being improperly reloaded into a pistol casing. I think that the man that killed Brandon Lee wasn't Michael Massee, but the individual that forgot to check the firearm's barrel. This individual commited "culpable homicide" by negligence. Bio needs re-writing

The bio needs a lot of work. A) The beginning says that Brandon returned to LA in 1985 but does not state from where -no background is provided for his childhood. I live in Seattle and happen to know he lived here, but most people don't. The writer should not assume this is common knowledge. B) The bio then goes into a tangent about Bruce Lee not being casted for the original Kung Fu series, which doesn't tie very well with Brandon's bio (it's meant to reference Brandon's consideration for the role in the latter version of the show but takes too much space in the bio for something that never came to fruition). C) Brandon's martial arts training gets no mention whatsoever.

I have a lot going at the moment but will research and expand his bio info, if someone else doesn't.

Swedish name

An editor who wanted to remove Lee's Chinese name pointed out, perhaps in a tongue-in-cheek manner, that if we include Lee's Chinese name at the English-language Wikipedia, we ought also to include his Swedish name. It is not clear, however, that he has a "Swedish name," or that his parents assigned him one as they did his Chinese name. It is not common for Swedish Americans to give their children alternate Swedish names the way the Chinese American overseas Chinese community generally does. This article is written almost entirely without the use of references. Can the original author or someone else please reference this work? I know that most of this article is factually correct (some things I just never heard and I can't back up), but this isn't even good enough for a term paper, let alone an encyclopedia article, without references!

Also, it does no good to talk on the discussion page or ask questions if you don't sign your posts.

Lots of actors have died during production of a movie or post production and they still release the movie. He died in 93 but the movie didn't come out until 94. That doesn't mean the date of death is wrong.Chexmix53 (talk) 01:15, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

His Birth Name

Prefixing Brandon's American nationality with "Chinese-"

An anonymous user insists on prefixing Brandon's nationality "American" with "Chinese-". Here's why describing Brandon as "American" is the best way to go:

1. Brandon was more White than Chinese. His mother was fully White and his father, Bruce Lee, was 1/8 White, making Brandon 9/16 White and 7/16 Chinese. He better fits the description of White American than Chinese American. More to the point, Brandon was also a Swedish American, an English American, and a German American. To classify him as solely a Chinese American is akin to denying him European roots, which borders on racism.

2. Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies) states that "Ethnicity should generally not be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." The pages of Keanu Reeves, Dean Cain, Russell Wong, and Rob Schneider, all of whom are Americans with partial Asian ancestry and arguably higher profile than Brandon, all list these actors as simply "American". Ancestry, mainly inherited from father's ancestral root, which is what you inherit your father's last name.

The filmography section (final section before sources) says that Lee was 'killed during filming' of the crow. Perhaps 'died whilst filming' would be more appropriate? Okay, I took the time to delete much of and rewrite the death section. I deleted much of the ranting that was taking place about all the specificity on the cartridges primer, who should have done what. It read as an upset fan, or family member, and not encyclopedic. More details on his death can be added, but should be sourced and be important. It shouldn't turn into a 5-paragraph indictment of the film crew disguised as a Wikipedia section. In addition to not citing any sources, it was very opinionated and non-linear in nature. Also, just because you start a sentence with "it is rumored that", or "all though it may never be known for sure", or "some are of the opinion that" that doesn't mean it's okay to write opinions and speculation in the article. Is Lei5 Gwok3 Hou4 the Pinyin name of Brandon Lee and not Lei Gwok Hou? Seems odd to have english numbers in a chinese name. I read the article after reading about Bruce Lee and cannot help to ask just one question. On a movie where props are always available, how would any live bullet come into a place where there are only props. The article told how it happened but not why. Curious.{{{}}}

Brandon Lee's Death Scene

Brandon Lee's actual death scene is not in the The Crow and never has been.

According to the IMDB (Internet Movie Database): "Brandon Lee died during a mishap on the set. A scene required a gun to be loaded, cocked, and then pointed at the camera. Because of the close-range of the shot, the dummy cartridges loaded had real brass caps, bullet, but no powder. After the cut, the props master (not the arms master - he had left the set for the day) dry-fired the gun to get the cock off, knocking the projectile/bullet into the barrel of the gun. The next scene to be filmed involving that gun was the rape of Shelly. The gun was loaded with blanks (which usually contain double or triple the powder of a normal cartridge to make a loud noise). Lee entered the set carrying a bag of groceries containing an explosive blood pack. The script called for Funboy (Michael Massee) to shoot Eric Draven (Lee) as he entered the room, triggering the blood pack. The bullet that was stuck in the barrel was blasted at Lee through the bag he was carrying, killing him. The footage of his death was subsequently developed and used as evidence in the investigation into his death. As part of the lawsuit settlement, the footage was later destroyed." Unverified Information

I will keep a record of this in this thread. None of this information is defamatory or a an embellishment of his character. I think it's fine here until I will either delete when proven false or return it to the article.

1. This was written in the begining of his career: Lee returned to Los Angeles in 1985, where he worked for Ruddy Morgan Productions as a script reader, doing an uncredited cameo in the action film Crime Killer (1985) starring George Pan Andreas.

Note: There is no article citing the specific company nor the film. A VHS of the film was ripped on YouTube, feel free to have a go. YouTube generally speaking is an invalid citation, and the VHS would be invalid until a credible source spots him and points it out. The current citation mentions a company where he worked as a script written but not a specific one. Would be fun if those could be verified somehow.

2. was part of the American New Theatre group founded by his friend John Lee Hancock

Note: As of now, with the citation I found, Lee performed in a play written by Hancock but a friendship isn't noted. Also I see a Theatre group in this citation but with a different name.

3.On Ohara episode: He played a villainous character named Kenji. This was Lee's first and only guest appearance in a television series and also the only time he played a villain. [citation needed] (resolved)

Removal of Eliza Hutton from infobox as partner spam

@Gabrielle Lyss, I see that you have been removing Eliza Hutton's name from the infobox. Please give a good reason before doing it again, because otherwise you'll just keep getting reverted. Also bear the three revert rule in mind. --Slashme (talk) 14:56, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

There is the odd editor or IP address that comes along and unexplainaly deletes stuff. When they are addressed they in so far do not comeback. Filmman3000 (talk) 22:36, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

@Filmman3000 Their IP addresses (84.127.253.150 & 46.34.47.56) are from the same place Valencia, Spain (and the person has been spamming a number of Brandon Lee related wikis). They delete only the references to Lee's fiancee (and are spamming his page). I have noticed they post lies and fake information about his personal life constantly and then just keep doing it. Can you block via IP? They appear to be the same as user Gabrielle Lyss. Their antics are just immature. Mortal Kombat, The Matrix, and plays

1. There was talk to cast Brandon Lee in the role of Johnny Cage in the film adaptation Mortal Kombat, most of the news outlet that mentions it bloat the whole story. Recently on YouTube video, the director confirms he was briefly considered doesn't think any formal offers were made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-pSc-hAWdM

2. There is a rumor that Brandon Lee was to be cast in The Matrix. I think I remember, the directors denying it, but I can't find the interview where they deny it.

Just found an article from a website I am unfamiliar with that says that John Lee Hancock founded the troupe Legal Aliens. https://www.enprimeur.ca/directorBio/english/the-founder/117622
