Polv Anker ice class
[edit]According to the article "The Povl Anker is classified as a I 3/3 E, Deep Sea Car Ferry, ICE II, meaning she can sail even in icy conditions without the aid of an icebreaker". However, the class notation does not include any additional ice strengthening — the Bureau Veritas class I 3/3 E is alone equivalent to the lowest Finnish-Swedish ice class, II. [1] This is also noted in the class notation ("ICE II"). Thus the sentence is invalid and I decided to remove it. Tupsumato (talk) 22:21, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- BornholmerFærgen Technicle information of Povl Anker.
- I made a call to BornholmerFærgen A/S who will check the information.--Kind regards, Ro de Jong (Talk to me!) 08:53, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the clarification. However, "...can sail even in icy conditions without the aid of an icebreaker" is still incorrect or, at best, very vague — while the ship can sail in mild ice conditions (10–15 cm) without assistance, the above sentence should IMHO only be used for ships with actual icebreaking capability as most ice-strengthened ships operate in much harsher conditions. Also, the definition of the Finnish-Swedish ice classes states that only ships of the highest ice class, 1A Super, are assumed to operate independently in severe ice conditions — lower classes rely, by definition, on icebreaker assistance. - Also, did you notice that the Hammerodde also has ice class (1C)? Tupsumato (talk) 13:35, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
