Bias?
[edit]I believe this show is racist towards other nations. It truly reflects the racist attitudes of Australians and New Zealanders towards tourists or people from other cultures. Some episodes have been racially discriminating to some cultures especially the Chinese. Shame on them! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.238.112.221 (talk • contribs)
- As a legitimate Australian citizen I too feel that this television programme does ridicule people from variuos races. It shows footage of mainly non-European people failing to understand the 'complex' quarantine laws in Australia. This footage is then over-exaggerated.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.134.34.197 (talk • contribs)
- Sorry but I have to disagree. I think just as many American and European passengers feature on the show as passengers from Asia. It probably is true that most of the cases of people smuggling food are people from Asia, but I expect that is because that's what happens, a lot of people from China etc like to bring in their own food, much of which is prohibited. If any people are depicted as not being able to understand the quarantine/immigration laws, it's probably because they don't! Also, please sign your comments next time.--Joe 1987 18:20, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Were you guys actually like on the show?
- Firstly this show does not feature New Zealanders. Secondly it doesn't discriminate against races, it discrimates against people who break the law. Thirdly it is not awfully complicated to understand a complicated a customs declaration form - I probably understand the words "do you have any food" in half a dozen languages (from countries I haven't had the luxury of being offered citizenship of). However, probably you can agree with me on this serious point, I am a bit concerned about the mental health of the Australian population when a television program like Border Security is the most watched program (even when it competes with new episodes of The Simpsons) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.238.112.221 (talk • contribs)
I think I will add in here that the show actually featured New Zealanders a couple of weeks ago when they were caught smuggling into New Zealand (or changing planes to australia i'm not sure) a very large (commercial) amount of a drug which is meant to help asthma but is also used to make an illegal drug and IIRC, it was heroin. And the show is not just about ethnic people and is supported by many more cases than the one I have written. And as said before please sign your username or IP address by typing in 4 hypens and it will turn into the following: Lakeyboy 06:40, 22 August 2006 (UTC) -
Ratings
[edit]Is it necessecary to have the comment about Torville and Deans Dancing On Ice?I like Radiohead 14:48, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- No. I removed it, and requested a reference for the claim made about the show being the highest rating on Australian television. -- Longhair 14:55, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- If someone had access to the Oztam tv ratings poll they could reference it there.I like Radiohead 07:10, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- You can get figures from OzTam here. You'll have to look through the archives, but you'll find that it was indeed usually the highest rater for the week.

Production
[edit]Can anyone shed any light on the production choices - what has been written seems intuitive but may just be a guess by the editor. I have looked for Customs service material on exactly how the showe is made but their website is pretty blank on it, just a small entry in one of their reports that they are cooperating with seven to do the program as a PR thing. BTW No offence with the 'dubious' tag - it isn't meant to be harsh, it is the only one I know. --121.209.162.39 00:40, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Contexts and themes
[edit]- The whole 2nd paragraph under Contexts and Themes needs to be heavily edited if not removed. It contains material that is racist and defamatory. Jonesy 00:45, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
I think you're right - I have removed the problem sections of that para now. This edit also deals with the NPOV issues which I think some other editors were having disagreements about. It is all OK now, but any external references that anyone can find and include per above query would make this a stronger article. --121.209.160.233 01:01, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- I have removed the "Context and Themes" section. What was there previously was a soapbox rant using original thought without any proof. However, I have found some criticism of Border Security in Bob Burton's book which raises more serious issues about government accountability in immigration matters, rather than this speculative wankery about which ethnic groups are being picked on by who. In my opinion, this is the more racist TV show I ever seen in any channel... These "workers" abuse and don't respect the people privacy but not all people, all I see is this only happen with people that they are not born in Australia... Maybe in real life like 24 hours work more stuff like this happen but in the show the only record and show people from other countries. I have seen they reading phones messeges and photos from people with no criminal record that's iligal... U can not see personal stuff just couse you want to do it for the cameras... This show have to be ban. This make me sick... There is other shows like this one like jfk airport and El derodo Airport I think and you don't see this kind of stuff... Only in Australia.. Well I can say that I have see austri people in my country doing stuff and they looks like animals... No respect. Jokilluminaty (talk) 23:18, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:BorderSecurityTitleScreen.jpg
[edit]File:BorderSecurityTitleScreen.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 04:01, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Seasons
[edit]This show is on it's eleventh season. So why only show the most recent?--Auric talk 14:06, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
ratings figures wrong
[edit]the column heading for the table says "Australian viewers (thousand)" but the column has numbers like "794,000" i.e. if the value is in thousands it indicates a viewership approx. 30 times the population of Australia. Kelly F Thomas (talk) 14:44, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
Ratings-sections has other start and end-date of seasons than season-listings has. By several years apart. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.236.174.11 (talk) 21:19, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
