The Ulrich Affair

I don't see any reference to this incident, referenced in a Jelani Cobb editorial, on this Wikipedia page: "A century ago, when Booker T. Washington, the country’s prominent and powerful proponent of black moral uplift, was assaulted outside a brothel in New York City, the effect upon his political standing was catastrophic. " https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/shielded-bill-cosby

So I researched it and found an article called "Booker T Washington and The Ulrich Affair" By Willard B. Gatewood from the January 1970 edition of The Journal of Negro History, Volume 55 Number 1. https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/pdf/10.2307/2716543

That article outlines a familiar type of racist incident. A white apartment dweller saw Washington in the vestibule, accused him of being up to no good, and assaulted him. But the article also restates Cobb's characterization, that Washington's career was never the same:

"Tragic though observers considered the implications of the Ulrich-Washington affair, they were scarcely less impressed with the irony of the episode. The motive which presumably prompted Ulrich t attack the most distinguished Negro in America as well as the geographical setting of the assault contributed to the ironic note: suspected of committing the "unpardonable" offense, the most eloquent spokesman of the philosophy of accommodation among Negroes was not only beaten by Ulrich and another white man but was also threatened by a mob of whites, not in the South, but in New York City." —  Preceding unsigned comment added by Tangmusi (talkcontribs) 16:16, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Page Protected from Editing: Typo Edit Needed

If someone is able to, this page needs a small typo correction under the section Dinner at the White House. There you’ll see between the first and second sentence there is no space where there needs to be one. Thank you! 108.34.189.170 (talk) 02:35, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

Typo fixed. Thanks for catching it. A. Randomdude0000 (talk) 02:44, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

Booker t Washington believe in god

Take out that ENTIRE 'overview'! It is totally unnecessary (as in all wiki articles), and you just repeat yourself below in the main paragraphs and sections. 98.123.126.45 (talk) 05:13, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Bookers first teacher

No where on Booker's page is mentioned that his first teacher and the woman ( Viola Ruffner) who helped him the most when he was young is mentioned at all. And yet, she has her own page describing her lifelong connection to Booker. This page should be combined with his history. There are many websites that go into much deeper detail about their relationship, and these should be added also. As I am too old to add all this information myself, I hope that someone reads this and knows how to add it. Viola Ruffner

Why is Du Bois' book listed as his under "works"?

I assume it's just a mistake 67.189.110.37 (talk) 01:15, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

Good catch. The Souls of Black Folk has been removed from the "Works" list. Thanks for spotting and pointing out the error. A. Randomdude0000 (talk) 20:24, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

Why does the Booker T. Washington page have the "Conservatism in the United States" sidebar? That doesn't make sense. Is this an attempt by a right wing editor to co-opt his legacy?

Why does the Booker T. Washington page have the "Conservatism in the United States" sidebar? That doesn't make sense. Is this an attempt by a right wing editor to co-opt his legacy? The edit was made in June 2023. 2600:1700:8530:68A0:3CA2:DBC9:5B46:B06E (talk) 11:01, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
