Burgermaster - Burgermeister
[edit]An editor has changed this word to the correct German spelling. However the book is written in English and the word is spelt Burgermaster in its text, and I think that for this reason we should stay with that. Britmax (talk) 08:53, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Deighton actually uses "Burgomaster". Khamba Tendal (talk) 17:00, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
Duplication
[edit]The 1995 BBC radio drama based on the book is mentioned in detail in both the Trivia and the Dramatisation sections. Once is enough, surely! --TraceyR (talk) 11:33, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Faith And Beauty Society
[edit]I don't recall this being mentioned in the novel. The character in question, Anna-Luisa, August Bach's housekeeper, is actually introduced to the reader thus (p.32, Pan 1971 edition):- "Neither the little boy nor his father, for whom she was preparing breakfast, belonged to Anna-Luisa. She was a member of the RADwJ, a uniformed labour force of mothers' helps and social workers." The initials, never explained by Deighton, stand for Reicharbeitsdienst der weiblichen Jugend, "Reich Labour Service for Female Youth", a sub-branch of the much larger RAD. From 1939, RADwJ service was no longer all-volunteer and young women could be conscripted. Anna-Luisa's membership of the RADwJ, her uniform and her brooch badge are referenced a number of times in the text. Khamba Tendal (talk) 17:17, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
