Very heavy casualties?
[edit]In a war were men are cheap, 16% killed or wounded is light casualties, even for a victor. Tourskin (talk) 04:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
title change>> British bombardment of Algiers
[edit]this is only a minor -yet british- bombardment of algiers, Don Antonio Barcelo did more important bombardments, like in 1784, with larger fleets (130 ships not 27...) and he reduced the algerian corsairs for a while. i suggest to change the title to be more specific. - Perhaps we could add the date to the title Bombardment of Algiers (1816). Dabbler (talk) 12:20, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
A medal was issued in Britain
[edit]A medal was issued in Britain, with the inscription, "Algiers bombarded, its fleet destroyed, and Christian slavery extinguished, August 27, 1816". See The Gentleman's Magazine, Vol.123. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.30.71.244 (talk) 14:30, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Bomb Vessel
[edit]I'm afraid the author has misunderstood the nature of a bomb vessel. It is not intended to moor alongside something and then explode. A 'Bomb' or 'Bomb Ketch' is a broad-beamed vessel with two mortars amidships. It throws exploding shells on a high trajectory. See Wiki entry on 'Bomb Ketch' for more. - This is certainly the case and the wording should be changed. Also the destruction to the town was said to be great, the upper floor of the US consulate was destroyed - as described by the consul himself, also the intense heat from the burning Algerine shipping caused fire to spread to the warehouses near the harbour.
