Talk:Boca Del Mar, Florida/Archive 1
Boca Del Mar is not within the city limits of Boca Raton
[edit]- It's an "independent" unincorporated community that doesn't belong in any jurisdiction other than unincorporated Palm Beach County. --Moreau36; 1142, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- That's not true. While not officially in the incorporated area's limit's, it is still part of Boca Raton. The address is a Boca Raton one, too. 03:56, 5 June 2006 (UTC) Alexzero77
- How can a neighborhood be "part" of Boca Raton if not within the city's boundaries? Addresses in unincorporated area often use the name of a nearby city for convenience. So do addresses located in smaller and newer incorporated cities and towns near larger and older ones (eg, for years letters for folks living in Margate and Coral Springs would often be addressed to Pompano Beach). The fact remains that Boca Del Mar is not officially "part" of Boca Raton. Thus, I have chanegd the article to more accurately reflect this by saying that the neighborhood is "near" Boca Raton. Keep on trucking, Alex. Captaintruth 13:03, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, but it still is part of Boca Raton. The postal address is even Boca Raton. Many services in the area is also provided by the city. 22:30, 7 June 2006 (UTC) Alexzero77
- According to dictionary.com, the definition of "part" is "[a] portion, division, piece, or segment of a whole". The "whole" in question here is Boca Raton, an incorporated municipality that occupies a specific area in Palm
Beach County, Florida. An area that is not within Boca's municipal boundaries is simply not a portion or division of the incorporated municipality of Boca Raton. I have already responded to your point about addresses and provided a specific example. As for municipal services, it is extremely common for a city to provide municipal servcies to nearby unincorporated area (and to nearby cities for that matter. For example, West Palm Beach supplies water for several nearby incorporated areas. Providing these services does not make the areas to which these services are provided "part" of the city that provides them. Captaintruth 18:39, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- On "www.maps.google.com", search "Boca Raton, Florida." After that, search "Target." The first choice should have the address "21637 State Road 7 Boca Raton, FL 33428." This store is not in incorporated Boca Raton, BUT STILL IS! The address clearly says so.
- As I explained above, mailign addresses in unincorproated areas typically do include the name of a nearby municipality (which makes sense, as an address requires that you list a city name). This does not make these locations "part" of the nearby incorporated area. Captaintruth 22:35, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Alex, If you come here to Tampa, there are many surburban communities, incorporated and unincorporated that uses Tampa as it address. Panama City, Florida has incorporated surburbs that uses "Panama City" as its address. This is for convience purposes only. Unincorporated MEANS unincorporated . --Moreau36; 2317, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Wait a minute! Why are you trying to tell me what is what? I live in Boca Del Mar! I know well that's it's also Boca Raton. But I'll change it a little to avoid all this heat. 02:02, 9 June 2006 (UTC) Alexzero77
- Look what the official website says:
"Boca Del Mar is a master planned residential community, located in beautiful Boca Raton, Florida, in Palm Beach County just west of interstate I-95 at the Palmetto Park Road exit."
Clearly, you can't disagree with the official website. 21:00, 9 June 2006 (UTC) Alexzero77
- Alex, once again, Boca Raton is the place's address! Please see http://www.city-data.com/city/Boca-Del-Mar-Florida.html which shows Boca Del Mar as a separate "city". Also take a close look at the city's boundaries. We need to be consistent with other unincorporated CDPs within Wikipedia. Thank You!--Moreau36; 2110, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Boca Del Mar is not located in the city limits, plain and simple. The only tie is the city has a contract to provide water service. You must leave the city limits to enter the community. It only has a Boca Raton mailing address. In fact, attempts by the city to annex Boca Del Mar have met with fierce resistance from residents.Ae01 03:16, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
