Hello! The changes that you have made look very good. I volunteer at the Museum of Bluegrass and would like to add additional information to his wiki page. One, being his discography, two, further information that I have uncovered in archives. May I write up my findings and send the draft to you for suggestions? JosieJosie (talk) 20:03, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That's a helpful suggestion, JosieJosie, thank you! May I suggest that you post your suggestions here, on this page, in small digestible bite-sized pieces (the chances of finding someone prepared to check through a large-scale rewrite are … well, not high). You can add {{request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) to your edit to attract the attention of other editors. Please note that all proposed changes should be supported by independent reliable sources, and that archival research has no place here (until and unless it's been published elsewhere, that is). It looks as if there's quite a lot of scope to improve this article. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:47, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
JosieJosie, perhaps I should also have made quite clear that you can't just copy material here from http://www.bluegrassmuseum.org (or anywhere else on the internet or in printed sources) unless it is released under a suitable copyright licence for re-use in this project – please see your talk-page. The place for conflict-of-interest editors to propose changes to the article is here, on this page, Talk:Bobby Osborne. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:35, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. The material was copied from: http://www.bluegrassmuseum.org/bobby-osborne/. Copied or closely paraphrased material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.)

For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, and, if allowed under fair use, may copy sentences and phrases, provided they are included in quotation marks and referenced properly. The material may also be rewritten, providing it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Therefore, such paraphrased portions must provide their source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:29, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bobby Osborne Wikipedia page

[edit]

I am interested in continuing to edit Bobby Osborne's Wikipedia page. I based a lot of information from historian, Fred Barstein, with his permission. May I continue to ad the information with references to the page? May I work with a more experienced person to make sure I am doing this correctly? Write it in Sandbox and check?

Thank you

JosieJosie, you are welcome to propose improvements to the article here, on this page, the talk-page. I'll leave some advice on how to do that below this section. One valuable contribution you could make would be to identify and list here a good number of independent reliable sources (published books, articles in reputable newspapers and magazines or in learned journals, or similar sources) which discuss this person in some depth. Wikipedia is built on such sources, and reports only what is published in them; if you or Fred Barstein or anyone else has additional information about the topic and it has not been published, it is of no interest to Wikipedia and can't be included here because it is not verifiable.
What you did before, which I have undone, was to copy (with minimal alterations) text from http://www.bluegrassmuseum.org. That, I'm afraid, is not allowed here. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:59, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

At least one major contributor to this article appears to have a close personal or professional connection to the topic, and thus to have a conflict of interest. Conflict-of-interest editors are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly, but are always welcome to propose changes on the talk page (i.e., here). You can attract the attention of other editors by putting {{request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) at the beginning of your request, or by clicking the link on the lowest yellow notice above. Requests that are not supported by independent reliable sources are unlikely to be accepted.

Please also note that our Terms of Use state that "you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." An editor who contributes as part of his or her paid employment is required to disclose that fact. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:59, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
