Did some checking and I honestly don't think this person is notable enough to warrant a Wikipedia page. Granted that there are a few references listed but a cursory glance on Google and Yahoo yielded very little for Robert Laverne Shannon and using the key word Bob Shannon yielded the former WCBS-FM disc jockey. Therefore, I'd like to open up the floor for discussion of nominating this article for an A7 speedy deletion. Please help by adding your opinion and whether you give a yea or nea to my proposed speedy deletion. Thank you. TheGoofyGolfer (talk) 10:52, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think this man is sufficiently notable to have his own page. My rationale is, "minor high school coach." I have tried to propose this page for deletion, but it has been reverted.Zigzig20s (talk) 23:38, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you proposed it for deletion and nominated it for speedy deletion. The speedy deletion was declined because the article has a claim to significance and that is all that is needed to survive speedy deletion. The proposed deletion was declined because I believe this article should be discussed before being deleted as I feel he is notable. If you feel it should be deleted, the only option left is to nominate it using the articles for deletion process. The instructions on how to do this can be found at WP:AFDHOWTO. Did you do any searches before you decided he wasn't notable? Reliable sources are still discussing him and his records. GBfan00:39, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Zigzig20s can you please explain what in the article makes you think it is written like an advertisement? I do not see it but would like to fix the problems you have identified. GBfan17:54, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see any basis for calling this an advertisement. It looks like a short but well-sourced biographical article to me. I'm going to remove the tag. --Arxiloxos (talk) 19:12, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The page looks greatly improved. When I visited it a few days ago, it looked like an unreferenced half-stub about a nobody. I am still surprised that high school football coaches have their own pages, because most high schools are deemed non-notable in the first place, but...I see some high school football players who are teenagers also have a page. I find that strange, as a policy. (Is there a Wikipedia policy that clearly states that high school football details are notable?) However, I think we should all rejoice that I called attention to this page, since it led to great improvement. I will try to improve it further with an infobox and better chronological layout. After the "biography" section, a table should be added with all the teams/wins. I do think there are still elements of advertising in the page, but I think that may be a reflection of the nature of American football, not necessarily this man's abilities. More questions remain--where was this man educated? Can we find a copyright-free picture?Zigzig20s (talk) 00:06, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There isn't any guideline that says high school football details are notable. There is a guideline that says any article that has significant coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the subject are notable, see WP:GNG. This article met that standard before I worked on the article. If you had nominated this article at AFD it would have been kept without any work. GBfan00:49, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It was mostly unreferenced, and back in 2012 another editor already wanted to get it deleted, so no. I fail to see why you are not thanking me. In any case, is there a copyright-free picture of this person anywhere?Zigzig20s (talk) 02:21, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
