Date of birth

[edit]The Canadian Encyclopedia lists his dob as 1864. Jeremicus rex (talk) 22:51, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- James Martin, who annotated Grant MacEwan's 1974 biography (2nd edition - 1st ed was in 1957) of Edwards for an updated 2004 printing, states that although Edwards claimed to be born on 12 Sept 1864, his birth certificate gives a birthdate of 17 Sept 1860. Name should be "Bob Edwards"
[edit]According to Wikipedia guidelines (WP:NAME), this article should be retitled "Bob Edwards" rather than "Robert Chambers Edwards". "Bob Edwards" is the common name that the subject is best known by. This can be shown by the use of Bob Edwards in the title of books about him, many of which have yet to be cited. Grant Macewan's Eye Opener Bob: The Story of Bob Edwards[1] is already cited. See also The Best of Bob Edwards (1975, ISBN 9780888300966) and The Wit and Wisdom of Bob Edwards (1976, ISBN 9780888301123), both edited by Hugh Dempsey, and Irresponsible Freaks, Highball Guzzlers & Unabashed Grafters: A Bob Edwards Chrestomathy (2004, ISBN 0973248157) edited by James Martin. See also the titles of articles about Edwards cited at the end of his entry in the Dictionary of Canadian Biography - Edwards, Robert Chambers. However, there needs to be some disambiguation to make sure that people don't end up with Bob Edwards (UK journalist). I suggest "Bob Edwards (Canadian satirist, 1860-1922)". "Satirist" seems the best way to encapsulate Edwards' combination of politics, social causes, humour, and free-wheeling journalism in a single word, and he was definitely a skilled writer of satire. And since Bob Edwards (disambiguation) has many entries already, the dates should prove useful. Country Wife (talk) 16:15, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
