The blood tax is part of the Bulgarian history. In 15th century the Ottoman Empire conquered Eastern Europe including the Bulgarian land. During this time the Bulgarians were not entitled to build churches or even wearing bright colors. The Bulgarian people experienced numerous taxes from the Turk Empire and the hardest one was the “Blood tax”. At intervals, the Turkish authorities took with force the healthiest male children and babies away from their parents. They were raised with unimaginable cruelty, brain washed and transformed into fanatically faithful solders of the Sultan and the Ottoman Empire. These solders were called Janissary and caused a lot of trouble to both the Bulgarians and Christian Europe. The Bulgarian families rather killed their kids but not allowed the Turkish authority to take them and transform them into Islam military beasts. A variety of ways and means was used in the assimilation of the Bulgarian people. Some of these were the aforementioned “blood tax” and the regular kidnapping of children, pretty women, girls and young men to Turkish families.<ref> Dimitrov B, Bulgaria Illustrated History, Boriana Publishing House,1994
