Merge?
Shouldn't Botellón merge here into Block party#Spain? PPEMES (talk) 10:35, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose - From a quick look, both articles are fine on their own I would say and I think putting the Botellón article in here would make this page a lot more unwieldly. I do think the two should be linked more than just in the See also section though. Maybe a short paragraph on it here under Block party#Spain with a main article link to the article? - Oppose - All parties and congregations are not the same. [Botellón] have a specific social pattern, cultural and semantic meaning in Spain nad Spanish and needs its own page. 'Street parties' in the UK have a specific semantic cultural relevance as described in the history of street parties on this site http://www.streetparty.org.uk/history which is based on work by a now closed not-for-profit group called Streets Alive. e.g Street parties are not common in north Wales and Scotland because they do not have the same cultural resonance. The English do not understand Hogmanay and the Scots do not understand an English 'street party. The link with US Block Parties is acceptable in the principle for neighbours' events, but the English do not understand 'Block Party' becuase a 'block' in English is mainly a block of flats, especially in poorer housing areas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChrisParty (talk • contribs) 14:44, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- Comment. Yeah. Arguably every single friends group and every single night has their own unique cultures... What about moving the article to "street party" for more WP:GLOBAL? On the commentators above, are you really insisting we should have articles such as Street partying in Scotland, Street partying England, Street partying in the United States (American English: "Block party"), Streetpartying in Spain (that is in Spanish "Botellón") etc.? Would that really be serious? Are you sure the encyclopedical relevance of those national scopes are not better confined to WikVoyage? PPEMES (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- My main opposition would be that Botellón is not exactly a block party. It could be merged if there was an anologus article somewhere, but Public drinking is mostly about legislation. I'm not aware of other countries where Botellón is considered a particular "custom" or a distinct subject, but Spanish sources consider it distinct. – Thjarkur (talk) 21:34, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
