This article does not actually explain how a blanket stitch is done, or describe any of its variations. If a person did not know how to construct a blanket stitch, there is nothing here that would teach a person how to do it. This article needs to be edited to be more general and to remove the specific manufacturer's materials to a separate article. It reads like a defense of the patent. - PKM 00:13, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

I dont know about this IP case, but some general observations on patents surely raise some questions here.

Since patents only last 20 years, private ownership of the blanket stitch machine mechanism patent is not possible. Expired patents can not be 'renewed'.

Often a manufacturer will make small changes over the years, and patent some of the changes so that it can claim ongoing ownership, however the only thing owned in this case are any patented alterations in the last 20 years. Tabby (talk) 11:34, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

And since I see this hasn't changed in 7 years, I'm taking an axe to it. If some one can find a sensible deconvolution of it, that can go back, but this isn't staying as is: "To this day, Merrow retains a patent on the mechanism that creates the blanket stitch, renewing it with each redesign, which has occurred hundreds of times since its introduction in 1877. The most recent patent renewal occurred in 1934
