Old discussion about merging
[edit]bblean, xoblite, bb4win currently have almost nothing in common with blackbox. Initially, bb4win reused the graphics code from Blackbox and kept style compatibility, that's all. If they are all put together, then we should also merge here the entries for openbox, fluxbox, hackedbox and many other window managers which had something to do with Blackbox at some point in the past.
- I removed bblean but it seems like the other two could be footnotes to this article. --Yath 19:45, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Bad idea, you are talking programs for 2 differant operating systems for 1. For 2 the internal operations of both are very very differant. For example, blackboxwm uses the rc files as an X database, while the windows shells see them merely as text files. Also, the idea of plugins and what not is exclusive to bb4win and that family. While programs can interop with blackboxwm, they are not part of the shell. full disclosure I was one of the developers of bb4win and still a prominent community member running 2 of the most visted sites dealing with bb4win [lostinthebox.com and boxshots.org (formally box.crackmonkey.us)] --Tresni 23:12, 06 February 2006 (UTC -7)
VERY bad idea. BB4Win = Windows Shell Replacement, Blackbox = Linux window manager --62.47.206.215 22:28, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
I'll add to the growing chorus for this idea to be dropped, albeit as a mere anon... (194.80.32.11 01:23, 4 May 2006 (UTC))
Yes, I think for all intents and purposes this matter is closed. - Centrx 02:49, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Why was this planned to be deleted?
[edit]How is BlackBox not worthy of a Wikipedia entry? Anyone who has ever used a *box WM knows that BB is the ancestor of them all, and is still used.
I got rid of the stupid "this article will be removed soon" thing.
Blackbox dead?
[edit]Id Blackbox still a live project? The mailing list is only for spammers, and neither developer responds to emails. In fact, one of them doesn't even use a valid email account for sourceforge! -- Sy / (talk) 12:04, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
which widget toolkit libs?
[edit]GTK+, Qt (toolkit), or wxWidgets?
TIA, --Jerome Potts (talk) 03:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
New version?
[edit]According to this: https://github.com/bbidulock/blackboxwm
The newest version is 0.73, can I update? Yaron Shahrabani (talk) 14:47, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
The repository listed is a fork
[edit]The repository listed in the infobox isn't the original version or maintainer, it's just a fork of the original repository, and that should be stated. ShimonChai (talk) 01:59, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
Blackbox memory consumption :
[edit]Well, Blackbox seems to be more and more died since the last official remaining Website disappeared at the en of 2018... Searching Blackbox in search engines doesn't provides the expected results... However, the 1.1.4) of page from old Blackbox website says that it consumes only 1.2 MB of memory. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:660:3305:100:FAB1:56FF:FE9B:1CF5 (talk) 16:23, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
Screenshot of the default theme
[edit]For me, what really sets Blackbox apart from other window managers is the austere elegance of the default theme. I think the screenshot should show that instead of the current one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Augustkst (talk • contribs) 11:27, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
