@Keri: Thank you for you for being vigilant.

Young men from the estate would steal cars and 'display' them (with a variety of high-speed stunts) to an audience gathered outside the estate shops (known locally as the 'top shops'), eventually gaining worldwide media attention.

There are three references in the existing SPGB page-

  • Rioting occurred and petrol bombs were thrown when police tried to break up crowds of young people who had come to watch a display of the driving of stolen cars, something of a local pastime.
  • The estate itself is oval-shaped and lacks any proper social centre or focus. The nearest thing to this is "the oval"—roads around a rectangular space with trees which functions as a traffic island. It is around this space that most of the driving stolen cars for excitement and danger takes place.
  • The reference to the German film crew.

Can you explain why you feel this is not adequate to justify that paragraph? We do have a lot of problem with this section, I don't feel that the SPGB is a very reliable (notable) source, so if you have a better one please suggest it. Looking at this article searching for some architectural detail I found this section to be carrying undue weight WP:UNDUE. The crux of the disturbances story seems to be that this was an unwelcome preplanned insensitive police raid to deal with an issue that the local were wanting to stop. The press- then labelled it a riot- I may be wrong but as much of the text is still unreferenced I am willing to be corrected. If you wish to correct and compact the section text so it does correspond to the reference we have available I am only too happy. Clem Rutter (talk) 22:33, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I was more interested in the phrases "variety of high-speed stunts", "an audience gathered outside the estate shops", "known locally as the 'top shops'", and "worldwide". Keri (talk) 22:39, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Zap them- I was only repeating what was there. If it can't be supported it must go- will you do it or shall I. Then you can advise me about other unreferenced paragraphs. Do you have any photos of typcal houses, or the general street layout? Clem Rutter (talk) 02:11, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
