"The flag used in the film as Edward Teach's (Blackbeard's) pirate flag were in fact not his colors; but the flag of Captain John (Calico Jack) Rackham."
Well, it might appear so at first (and it was also my initial impression), because "Calico Jack's flag" is featured quite a lot early on in the first part of the miniseries. The reason for this is that it is narrated by Israel Hands who is at first a crewman under Charles Vane, the captain who would later be deposed by his men and replaced by his quartermaster John (Calico Jack) Rackham. The flag that is today identified as Calico Jack's was simply Charles Vane's in the first place. In footage of Blackbeard's ship flying a pirate flag the correct flag is indeed used. -- x-Flare-x{Talk)01:03, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
