Incorrect description of the trial process

[edit]

The current version says: "On November 4, 2020, Ashley was charged with second-degree murder, but the trial jury lowered the charge to manslaughter. On July 23, 2024, the trial began." This is poorly written and misleading. It suggests that, before the trial began, the jury decided to reduce the charges. That's not how our criminal trial system works. It was at the END of the trial that that they did that--when rendering their verdict, they declined to find her guilty of second-degree murder but did find her guilty of the lesser charge.
