I am not understanding the tags you added to the article.

  • If you look on this talk page you will see that the page is a list. Please see Civil rights movement in popular culture. I actually want to get more content on this page.
  • I am not understanding how in the world you are coming up with original research. The content comes either from existing articles... or cited content from reliable sources. There was zero original research.–CaroleHenson (talk) 06:35, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
CaroleHenson, yes the list aspect of the article is fine. But I see two issues arise that might be considred WP:OR.
1) We have to distinguish between pop culture mentions of police killings, racial profiling, etc (i.e. issues addressed by BLM) vs BLM-specific references (e.g. a song lyric referencing the movement or using popular BLM slogans). This can get tricky to decide what gets included and what not e.g. do we include every song with a mention of any victim of police killings or just the names of those individuals who are associated with major BLM protests? In this sense, the lack of clear scope on the page could potentially be seen as an indication that this is a work of synthesis which violates WP:OR.
I.am.a.qwerty, the items included in this article either came from a query (e.g., "Black Lives Matter" art - "Black Lives Matter" film, etc.) and are cited on the page or came from the Popular culture list in Template:Black Lives Matter. There was zero attempt at original research. I did not choose anything where I thought "Oh, that sounds like Black Lives Matter to me"?
Do you have specific examples of what you think should not be on this page? I am happy to remove items that others may have added to the template that aren't really Black Lives Matter related items.–CaroleHenson (talk) 15:53, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
2) While this page is clearly similar to the civil rights in pop culture page you mention, I think we need to treat the page as a simple and clear list, and if so, the intro section and background section seem at this stage to reflect an essay-like page rather than a list. I disagree with your thoughts about the introduction and background. I do not understand why it is harmful to provide context and substantiates the purpose of this page, particularly since there are two aspects: the social movement and the organization.
  • But I don't think it improves the article to remove it. I had thought that an option might be to put the Background section into Notes to the info in the intro. That's a possibility. It would provide the citations for the info summarized in the introduction.
  • I have never heard of someone asking for an introduction section to be removed.–CaroleHenson (talk) 15:53, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So far, I.am.a.qwerty, it seems like no one is interested in weighing in on this topic either way. How about:
  • If I look for sources for all items taken from the {{Black Lives Matter}} template to ensure that there is a connection to the movement and add sources for those where there is a source - and remove items where there isn't a source. I assumed that whoever added items to the template had done so because there was a connection, but who knows? Doesn't hurt to check.
  • I see no harm in having an introductory section (in fact there is no policy that I am aware of that says that there SHOULD NOT be an introductory section). I can roll up the background section into the introduction - removing duplication / summary info.–CaroleHenson (talk) 18:45, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

CaroleHenson, I've also tried to re-write the intro to sound more NPOV. I moved the paragraph on the BLM foundation's efforts to the arts section. I'm also going to search for academic articles to establish the topic beyond the WaPo article used in the intro. I.am.a.qwerty (talk) 10:27, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
