[edit]The article on John Jacob Niles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Jacob_Niles) claims that he wrote this song. Either that page or this should be corrected. (I don't know which.) Alexbook (talk) 16:48, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
He didn't, he's a liar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.44.50.248 (talk) 04:01, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
"A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" reference
[edit]"where black is the colour and none is the number" is a line in "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" " by Bob Dylan, a song infulence by the folk song "Lord Randall". Not an observation worth putting in the article, I don't think, but just thought I'd put that out there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.184.48.205 (talk) 01:24, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi 161.184.48.205, I think that you are 100% right because Bob Dylan knew those Lomax songs so well that he probably could have inserted "black is the color" as a subconscious quote into "Hard Rain." The poets like him scrape up everything from everywhere and then it shows up somehow in their verses, God bless them. G41rn8 (talk) 05:24, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

Black Is the Colour (Of My True Love's Hair) → Black Is the Color (of My True Love's Hair) – When this article was created in September 2007, its original title was Black Is the Color (of My True Love's Hair). In February 2008, "of" was moved to "Of" and, two months later, in April 2008, "Color" was moved to "Colour" with the edit summary "Colour is proper spelling for song that came from Britain". Although the song's origins may have been British or, more specifically, Scottish, the title originated in America. Alongside the issue of MOS:ENGVAR, the uppercase "O" in "Of" appears to contradict MOS:CT. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 03:21, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- Support Both are good points, so the move seems sensible to me. Qwfp (talk) 13:14, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- Support per MOS:TITLES, MOS:CAPS, WP:NCCAPS. This was overcapitalized on the mistaken belief that "Of My True Love's Hair" is a subtitle or alternative title. It is not, but just a parenthetic clause that isn't independent. Contrast this with, e.g., "Whisper to a Scream (Birds Fly)". — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 18:42, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- Support with no "u" per WP:ENGVAR Red Slash 16:43, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
better link to sharps folk songs (note 3)
[edit]The reference in note 3 could be improved by linking directly to the page in the book, which can be viewed at the link below. I don't know how to do it so I'm leaving a note here. Thanks to anyone who's keeping up this page. https://digital.ncdcr.gov/digital/collection/p249901coll37/id/35803 112.171.89.88 (talk) 10:35, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your contribution. I added your link as a reference and kept the original. As title and year are different, the references could well refer to different publications. Hinnerk R (talk) 11:32, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
