Early History
[edit]Article doesn't have much of anything from the early years of the company.
Around 1982 (earlier?) Bitstream was the leader in high-quality fonts for workstations, notably the Symbolics Lisp Machine (display and printing). I think they may also have had a relationship with Apple or Adobe; I don't remember. Their secret sauce was a font designing tool they developed on the Lisp Machine. Also, their headquarters at this time was in Cambridge, MA. That's about all I remember. I visited their office extensively back then. Someone ought to scare up some references in order to write some of this up. It was groundbreaking technology. 108.45.114.98 (talk) 13:50, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Agreed! I just read the article and had the same disappointment. I worked with John Collins who invented the Speedo font format, a groundbreaking technology that allowed user to create bitmap fonts scaled to any size for use on home computers, and later OEM’d to laser printer manufacturers in the 4-in-1 font engine. That engine became the backbone of MyFonts.com. I find it hard to believe there is no mention of John in this article and I wish anyone who knows more of his work would fill in the gaps. 72.93.95.61 (talk) 00:08, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
