Naming conventions: are Navarette and Villa Bisonó different places?

[edit]

I just redirected Mejía de Navarrete to this page, because Mejía de Navarrete and Navarrete appear to refer to the same place. However, is it possible that Navarette and Villa Bisonó are different places? According to this page, part of a worldwide directory by Falling Rain Genomics, Villa Bisonó is 0.9 nm east of Navarette. Can someone with knowledge of the region/a clarifying source comment on this? Thanks. FlyingToaster 18:26, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Municipality

[edit]

The town and the municipality are distinct. The municipality covers approximately four times the area of the town and includes other settlements, notably La Atravesada, Guanábano del Limón and Villanueva. This article is about the municipality of Bisonó (Municipio Bisonó / Municipio de Bisonó). The rural area was called "Navarette" after the town in Spain from which the early settlers came, and in 1939 was recognized as a rural area under the Santiago municipality. The town is called Villa Bisonó and was named "Villa José Eliás Bisonó" after José Eliás Bisonó, but I have not been able to identify when he lived or for what he was famous, but he was apparently a major landowner there. The town was recognized in 1956. The area became a municipal district under Santiago municipality with the name Navarette in the late 1950s. The area with the name Bisonó became a municipality in 1962. --Bejnar (talk) 23:25, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
