Problems with this page
[edit]The distinction between "hierarchically determined tonics" and "contextual pitch centers" is controversial and not needed. It is connected to Schenkerian ideas about tonality being more natural than modality. There is no need for it here.
The statement about "G mixolidian or G dorian" is an unneccessary point of interpretation. Perhaps it is a six note scale? Or a pentatonic scale with an extra note? The term "diatonic hexachord" accurately describes the collection, and should be used here. -- Tymoczko
