[edit]Why hasn't this guy been getting the exposure he deserves? Anyone who has listened to his stuff has to be impressed. A great guitarist too!
He's not such a great guitarist anymore; his hand is kind of crippled.
I just saw Billy Joe play this weekend in Lewisville, Texas, and I noticed that he only has half of his index and middle fingers on his right hand. Anybody know the story about this? Billy's also done some movies too. He had a small supporting role in The Apostle with Robert Duvall and IMDB lists him as having been an extra in Secondhand Lions (also with Duvall).
+ per Allmusic, he lost some fingers on his right hand while he was working at a sawmill.
- He is a good guitar player, indeed. He picks out those country songs, but also on the album "Electric Shaver" he plays good rock-'n'-roll rhythm guitar to go with Eddy's leads. As for his hand being crippled, so was Jerry Garcia's, and they both sustained their injuries before they became serious musicians. However...
- I'd like to see some real understanding of his influence in the article. He wrote quite a few songs that have a classical hymn feel to them, notably "Live Forever," and some of them are sung in churches. His Christmas song "Presents from the Past" is another one. He is getting the exposure he deserves, I think, little by little, and it is continuing. But it's not only with other people covering his songs; it's with the church-going public. By the way, please sign your posts. Wastrel Way (talk) 23:49, 10 November 2022 (UTC) Eric

Reference in Popular Culture
[edit]Perhaps the article needs a section on this. Would be useful to note that Bob Dylan includes Billy Joe Shaver's name in one of the lyrics of his 2009 album, "Together Through Life."

Thanks for the support.
[edit]I am Billy's neice, Tamara. Patricia Shaver, his sister, is my grandmother. She also took on the responsibility of being my parent, raising me from childhood. I just wanted to note that I am thankful for the support of you fans. This type of positive feedback, is surely what motivates. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.9.94.28 (talk) 18:49, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Table problem
[edit]Not sure what is wrong with this table... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Joe_Shaver#Singles
Seems like the last line should be on two lines.

Death
[edit]I'm reading this article that I just found and there's some information that may be worth mentioning under the Death section.
·Texas singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver, who rose to prominence amid the outlaw country uprising in the early 1970s, died Wednesday morning in a Waco hospital after suffering a massive stroke the day before. He was 81.
·Close friend Connie Nelson confirmed reports of Shaver’s death. Shaver had recently undergone hip replacement surgery and was recovering in a Waco rehabilitation facility when the stroke occurred on Tuesday morning. Nelson was called because she was listed as his emergency contact.
·“They called me yesterday morning and told me they were taking him to the hospital and that he’d had a stroke,” Nelson said. “The doctor said it was a brain stem stroke, and that no one comes back from that.”
·Doctors made the decision to wait until Wednesday to take Shaver off of life support. Nelson said Shaver’s sister visited him in the hospital Tuesday night.
Is this a reliable source?
