Alcoholism
What is the matter with mentioning Nighy's alcoholism and subsequent cure? It is inspirational and also widely discussed by Nighy himself.

Pronunciation
How do you pronounce Bill Nighy's last name? If someone could add this to the article, that'd be greeeeeat. - Brian Kendig 06:49, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- Nye(as in the first part of 'night') - ee. —Vanderdecken∴ ∫ξφ 15:02, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Although the IPA has a stress-mark, suggesting (correctly) that it's di-syllabic, the transcription could be read to suggest that it's mono-syllabic, with a diphthong as the second and final element. I'd suggest the vowel was a triphthong or maybe there's a final syllabic /i/ as a third element. Maybe it's /ˈnaɪi/ where the /aɪ/ is diphthongal and the final /i/ is distinguished by being more close.
Davy Jones Pic
Davy Jones was entirely CG in the movie, so no matter how reminiscent his appearence is to Nighy, its not really worth having a picture. Thoughts? Cheers, Dubbya9 05:36, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- I've changed the picture's description to reflect the fact that he was the voice actor. But seeing as there are very few pictures, it's worth keeping in my opinion. -- Lima Golf Talk | Contributions 11:01, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Wrong. Davy Jones was not "entirely CG". You can check it here. Even actor's facial movements were used. --88.154.40.78 19:06, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Bill did the acting with motion capture, but the character is a 100 percent CG model. -Fredvdp 30 May 2007
Acting career
I've deleted this sentence from the paragraph that mentions his BBC Radio roles:
- In addition, he also had a minor role in Softly, Softly.
It's not significant, other than as his first role recorded on IMDB, and if people are interested in his early appearances they can click the link to his page on that website. –Fayenatic london 23:30, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Filmography
Isn't filmography supposed to be listed reverse chronologically? It is on most bibliography pages. -- Lima Golf Talk | Contributions 11:02, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
The Science Guy?
Is he? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.171.211.111 (talk) 06:58, 24 February 2007 (UTC).
Picture
I've moved a picture up to the top of the article, butr a better one is needed. Could someone get a up to date one of him not in character, eg, at a awads ceremony or a premier?(Black Dalek 09:24, 10 April 2007 (UTC)).
Fair use rationale for Image:Davy Jones.jpg
Image:Davy Jones.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

career
i noticed that the fact that Bill Nighy lent his vocal talents to the character of Dylan the rabbit in the big screen adaption of the childrens programme The Magic Roundabout is not inclueded in the articule.
Katana81 (talk) 16:16, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Bill Nighy is also an ambassador for Oxfam. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.87.139.145 (talk) 00:12, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Married?
Just a minor point, but it's not clear if Bill Nighy is actually married to Diana Quick or not. Both Wikipedia and IMDB are inconsistent on this point, with the Bill Nighy article denying marriage and the Diana Quick article saying the opposite. -Chinju 03:39, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
I found this on his official website (billnighy.net) as an answer to this question: " Yes. Well, not on the paper, but since over 20 years actress Diana Quick is the woman on his side." -Fredvdp 30 May 2007 11:51 GMT+1
Illuminatus!
Illuminatus! link says Liverpool production was in 76 not 75, and Nighy wasn't in it, only in the 77 NT production. Ken Campbell link also says Liverpool production was in 76 not 75, but Nighy was in Liverpool production – which is correct??
217.40.170.134 (talk) 16:18, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
- The Concise Oxford Companion to the Theatre says Illumiatus was the Eveyman theatre's first play staged and it was in 1976 before moving to London in 1977 as the opening production at the Cottesloe Theatre (NT). This link from the Cottesloe hidden away deep in their arcane archive, shows that Nighy was indeed in the production. Span (talk) 12:18, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for addressing this WP inconsistency, and at least providing resolution that the Liverpool production was in 1976. Does the Concise Oxford Companion to the Theatre say that Nighy was in the cast of the Liverpool production? [Unfortunately, I can't read this reference.} If so, please correct the Illuminatus! article. If it doesn't mention the cast at Liverpool then the issue remains open about which article is incorrect. There is no issue that Nighy was in the NT production, but adding the reference is helpful. 217.40.170.134 (talk) 16:05, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- I've hunted high and low, including searching the Everyman archive and I can't find any evidence that Nighy was in the Liverpool production. That isn't to say he wasn't. I guess if anyone can find a solid ref they can add the production back in. Span (talk) 19:41, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Radio
Nighy has acted in many hundreds of radio productions for the Beeb. I'm not sure there's much point in listing all of them. It's a bit like listing individual poems by a poet. Maybe stick to major series. Span (talk) 09:36, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Pronunciation
The proper pronunciation is definitely 1 syllable, with the Y (well, and the GH) silent. But his name is on the main titles for a movie now being promoted, and the soundtrack of the trailer makes it 2 syllables (I didn't catch for sure whether it was 3 or 4 phonemes, but i thot 4, N-Igh-H-Ee. Can we find a source describing whether it's one production company that is going for 2 syllables, or some significant group of whom most should realize that barring ignorance, it was always 1?
--Jerzy•t 10:31, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
- In my experience most people use the N-Igh-H-Ee (mis-)pronunciation, very few pronounce it correctly. I was on a train with him once and he said that that has pretty much become the de-facto pronunciation. --Errant (chat!) 10:57, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, i was fixated on the announcer's pronunciation; i now see that the film advertised is The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
--Jerzy•t 06:52, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Bill Nighy also starred in the 2010 film Wild Target in which he played a hitman along with Emily Blunt and Rupert Grint. Also in the film were Martin Freeman and Rupert Everett. Nighy played the role of Victor Maynard, a hitmam. A great and funny film. Again Nighy at his best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.61.219.212 (talk) 00:51, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
Protagonist in "I love radio rock/Pirate Radio"
He is known even for his role in the film "I love radio rock" (2009) , where he is one of the main characters of the story. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.162.150.241 (talk) 21:18, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
- In English it is entitled The Boat That Rocked. Anna (talk) 21:27, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
2010 movie "Pirate Radio" not included in filmography. any reason why not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.85.196.7 (talk) 19:07, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
- All you need to do is read the sentence posted by Anna just above your question. The original title is The Boat That Rocked and it is in the filmography. MarnetteD|Talk 19:51, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
