Largest well
[edit]I have not seen this well billed as the "world's deepest hand-dug well," and clearly the Brighton well is much deeper. But simple arithmetic shows that the Big Well is much larger in terms of volume. The Brighton well, generously allowing for about 400 feet at 6 ft diameter and 900 at 4 ft diameter, has a volume of about 22,600 cu. ft. At 32 feet in diameter and 109 ft deep, the Big Well displaces 87,700 feet. So while the Brighton well is about ten times deeper, the Big Well is nearly four times bigger. NTK 13:39, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Not sure who later added the reference to the Pozzo, but thanks. That is clearly a Big Well that dwarves the midwestern one and is a rather amazing bit of history too. There should be an article on it. NTK 19:22, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Tornado
[edit]I don't think that Earth is capable of producing a wind powerful enough to lift a half ton meteroite. Don't you think? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 63.245.145.76 (talk) 07:26, 6 May 2007 (UTC).
- Probably not, but it's quite possibly been buried. And who knows; perhaps the well has caved in with all the destruction around it, in which case the rock would be buried deeply indeed. Nyttend 12:18, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, tornadoes have been known to lift cars and big rigs off of the ground and transport them great distances. Hell, some have stripped the asphalt off of the roads. I'm sure this meteorite was affected somehow by the tornado. 74.70.57.184 (talk) 05:28, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Big Well
[edit]Is there any reason for the (Kansas) in the title? This could be moved to Big Well which redirects here. — Robert Greer (talk) 02:25, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
