There should be some mention of the Wal-Mart influence on Big W.
Wal-Mart owns a substantial portion of Woolsworths and when visiting Big W, it is obviously based on Wal-Mart.

Not true as far as I can tell; but a former big wheel from Wal-Mart, Jack Shewmaker, consults with Roger Corbett (CEO of Woolworths) regularly. Big W would be silly not to take Wal-Mart's methods under consideration; they are the most succesful retail company in history. 203.192.64.186 14:01, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- If you meassure success by paying shitty wages, deliberately destroying any attempts for workers to join unions and destroying small business, then yes they are successful Dankru 10:38, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Store designs - removed from article
The Big W stores are referred to by mk. for each new major revision of the store layout and facilities. The majority of stores are a mk. 5 including older dos-based registers, mk. 6 includes touch screen based Retalix systems and mk. 7 includes state-of-the-art technology such self-service registers.
Currently, a number of stores are being trialed with mk. 7 revisions (including some Sydney stores, the Lismore store and the Ballina store. The majority of new stores being built are mk. 6.
In my personal opinion, the internal names we give our store designs don't belong in an encyclopedia, but I'm keeping it here in case someone wants to put it back. --Richmeister 05:26, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
