UK asylum containment . . recentism??
[edit]The impulse is understandable, but the recentism tag lately added to this section ("Please try to .. add [to the section] more content related to non-recent events") seems not quite on-point.
• The section is dedicated (by its title) to events which are current / very recent. There's no scope within it for "historical perspective".
• There's a section for History - so anything less recent would go there.
• Whether this UK asylum story was the reason for creating the article is speculative; but for many readers the reason for regarding the Bibby Stockholm as sufficiently notable will be this recent largely political story.
• On that basis, it could be the History section tht was thought slightly undue!
• At the extreme, that line of thinking would suggest tht this whole article should merely a section of an article on the long-running UK migrants / asylum-seekers saga. To me, though, this article is worthwhile, at an interesting intersection of a political narrative fairly notable in the UK with a distinctive type of marine vessel.
If the problem is tht this section is getting into undue detail, and/or getting to be too much like news reporting, are there more appropriate tags for raising those issues? 2A04:B2C2:405:EB00:74F1:19A5:7851:8FBC (talk) 19:38, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- Pinging @Kind Tennis Fan: who added the tag, for their thoughts on this query. Thanks. FotoFree (talk) 21:01, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- I placed the "recentism" tag as the vessel was built in 1976 and has a history of housing asylum seekers in other countries such as Germany and the Netherlands. But the section on the UK asylum containment at Portland Port in 2023 is longer in the article than the content of 46 years of prior history of the vessel between 1976 and 2022.
- I felt the UK section was becoming a bit bloated with recent news content, as per WP:NOTNEWS, but I take your point about the "recentism" tag perhaps not being the right tag for these issues and so therefore I've tonight removed the "recentism" tag from the article. If the section gets a lot longer with more recent news content then a different tag may be appropriate. Regards, Kind Tennis Fan (talk) 22:20, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
