Improving this article
[edit]This is a mid importance article in the categories of Bhutan, China, and International Relations. I note the original article goes back to 2008, and looking at the history of edits, it has built up slowly over time with contributors making a couple of edits each and then stopping.
I am certainly not an expert on Bhutan, but I'd like to improve the quality of this article using references already given, checking for updates, and searching for new reputable sources to fill any gaps in knowledge. I will also help rewrite certain sections of text that may (at current) be fragmented and disjointed.
Although I've made 100+ edits to date, this will be my first time adopting an article like this. More experienced users, please feel free to share if you have something that will help me improve.
The first step is to correct the current tag (This article may be in need of reorganization to comply with Wikipedia's layout guidelines. The reason given is: The Background section and the History section repeat content.)
Obviously, you're more than welcome to contribute. Please feel free to talk to me or leave a message on this talk page if you have any questions or useful information so that we can improve this article. Montezuma69 (talk) 20:49, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- That's a great idea. I've made additions to many "China-X" relations articles, including some here. Overall, I recommend trying to find a book-length treatments of the topic by academic. Web sources in international relations often tend towards the more shallow news-y kind of analysis. In the Bhutan-China case, you will probably see work dealing with the impact of boundary issues, Belt and Road Initiative, and the lack of formal relations.
- And I would say to be bold and edit vigorously. Many 'X-Y relations' talk pages tend to be fairly quiet. I don't think you'll have many other editors chiming in, in advance. Good luck on this great project. JArthur1984 (talk) 21:09, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message. That's what I will do.
- From preliminary reading/current knowledge, Bhutan's isolationism and long lasting independence will limit the scope and complexity that I'm sure many other "China-X relations" would have. That said, I suspect research into and knowledge of the history of Bhutan is somewhat lacking, except perhaps locally. I will need a text of some sort by an authority on Bhutan. I was looking at this but I'd rather something limited to a couple of chapters.
- As you said, web sources are lacking or shallow in general, but for Bhutan and its size and isolationism, this is particularly so. That said, beyond the background and history of relations, the current and future topics in for this article revolve more around Bhutan being sandwiched between India and China and (beyond Bhutan's own demarcation with China) the border issues and rivalry of its neighbours with prevail. - I have no familiarity with the author, but take a look at this. Author is a french diplomat and it looks like he has a book-length treatment from 2013 as well. JArthur1984 (talk) 23:37, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- A few years ago I added the two further reading sources to this article (not having time to properly dedicate to expanding the article with them sadly). They might also be very useful starting points for article expansion. CMD (talk) 01:15, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
