IPA Needed for Phonology
[edit]Section talking about relationships to other Indo-Aryan Languages uses analogy and non-linguistic terminology when discussing vowels specifically, so it's unclear what sounds are intended. I.e. it describes one vowel as having the same sound as the 'aw in awl', but that sound is different between American, RP, and Indian English Akku anka (talk) Akku anka (talk) 00:05, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
Mallika language and Kashika Language redirects
[edit]I've protected both of these redirects for now, as the sources I'm seeing suggest that these two are dialects of Bhojpuri rather than distinct languages. In most cases, dialects should either be covered on the page of the parent language, or if there are many dialects, on a page that broadly covers those dialects, such as Bengali dialects. Creation of standalone articles for Mallika and Kashkia requires sufficient sourcing and a consensus. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:41, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Kashika and Mallika is a dialect of Bhojpuri language, It was named by a linguist, People in general have no idea about this name and neither the government accepted these names, Indian government know this language by the name Bhojpuri, you can see government website, it is clearly written bhojpuri. It should be covered on the page of the parent language. Jilataap (talk) 06:44, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
Bhojpuri Speaking Region
[edit]Some guys are distorting the Bhojpuri Language article. He has updated this page multiple times without giving any source. Kindly check this user edits @Sang00500. He is indulging in edit warfare which is a breach of Wikipedia policy/rules. Kindly verify and take strict action on it. Aadit kumar misir (talk) 10:14, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- It is quite clear to anyone perusing your edits that the disruptive edits are coming from your side. The sociolinguistic classification "Nagpuriya Bhojpuri" is best left out for the body not the linguistic classification meant for the infobox. You do understand that "chiefly spoken" means the regions where it is the primary language (as described Oxford Dictionaries) not each and every place it is spoken (which can be expanded in the body of the article). "National language" in Nepal is dubious labelling since all spoken languages are classified as such without any governmental patronage (this has been left out from other WP articles as well per consensus). Removal/Replacement Video: A speaker of Bhojpuri
[edit]The video under the ″History″ section of the ″Bhojpuri language″ page, the topic on which the person is talking is in bad taste, video does not capture the flavour and essence of Bhojpuri, the video is grave injustice to Bhojpuri.
If im authorised, will be glad to contribute a video of a person speaking Bhojpuri in the next few days.
Video details: WIKITONGUES- Krishna speaking Bhojpuri.webm Dmncnthny (talk) 18:55, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Dmncnthny: If you wish you can upload a new video here, by following the guidelines.
After it is uploaded, you can link and replace the existing. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:32, 21 June 2023 (UTC)- @Dmncnthny: Before we replace anything, we should probably get enlightened about the points you raise. "The topic [...] is in bad taste": please specify. "The flavour and essence of Bhojpuri": can you be more explicit about it? "The video is grave injustice to Bhojpuri": again, details are welcome. It is obivous that you don't like the video (otherwise you wouldn't have repeatedly defaced[1] an article that is visited by ca. 700 readers each day), but unless you share what actually makes you feel like this, we might not be able to handle with your humble request. –Austronesier (talk) 19:58, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, we need to discuss it here first. Modified my previous comment. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:15, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Apologies for the delay in my reply:
- I was able to get the transcript of the video:
- Pranam bhai log, meaning Greetings Brothers.
- Hamar nam Krishna Kumar, meaning my name is Krishna Kumar.
- He states his name of the village, and district name.
- Earlier, when i first started working there was so much compulsion at home, my father used to
- earn and earn so much but there was no question of savings.
- Like in Bihar and UP, due to alcohol and gambling, everything was ruined and its the same story
- in my home, we used to have 2-3 shops, whatever my father used to earn, i was very little,
- he used to earn so much but never able to save money, mother used to tell him to
- save money, save money, we have growing kids, my father never understood, he used earn money
- and splurge it on gambling and alcohol, and today he is a pauper, poor,
- nobody is taking care of him, none of the relatives, we are 3 brothers,
- 2 brothers who made some earning have outcasted him.
- Till 2015 most of them have been ruined by alcohol, if alcohol is stopped then families would be able survive.
- Faced struggles while growing up, i had followed in my father footsteps and was just like him,
- my mother told me it not right, if you stay here, you will be ruined, and sent me out in the world,
- firstly i went to Punjab and there was not much earning there and same things continued there
- gambling and alcohol, then my brother spoke to on the phone, i went directly to Delhi, started working
- and i was not in good company, they were also indulged in chewing tobacco, alcohol and drugs.
- From there i went to Punjab and it was still the same so i moved to Bombay and stayed in Shastri Nagar,
- it was very filthy living conditions, went to Gujarat, Vapi in Gujarat, worked on the river bank,
- it was so hot and i lost lot of weight and became feeble. From there i went to Kashmir, Srinagar in Kashmir.
- Srinagar to Lalchowk to Batmaloo, in Batmaloo i worked at a factory which made utensils,
- i was hardly making any savings, there was compulsion due to fire back home, fire was started deliberately,
- whatever agricultural land papers we had, everything was reduced to ashes, total loss.
- I have been roaming and roaming Delhi t Bombay to Gujarat.
- Till date, in Punjab i started thinking i need to make something of my self, if i had good
- upbringing i would have been in good standing, i still keep thinking about, about......
- I have transcribed to the best of my ability.
- The talk is about sorry state of affairs in few states and that is his perspective on things and he is entitled to his opinion.
- The video may belong somewhere but it has no place under the Bhojpuri Language in Wikipedia.
- Please lemme know if you need further information and what should be my next course of action. Thank you. Dmncnthny (talk) 20:03, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- There isn't a requirement that language demonstration videos be limited to particular topics. I see no issues with using this video as an example of the language being spoken. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:14, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
