Television appearances

[edit]

This article mentions several television appearances by Ms. McLean, some of which are not very interesting, nor are particularly informative.

All these appearances appear to be less informative than a 57-minute conversation on C-Span where she discusses details about her book All_the_Devils_Are_Here. It was available on youtube, and it probably still is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by c-67-175-215-221.hsd1.il.comcast.net (talk) 22:56, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted all of the Deep Capture articles related to her spat with Patrick Byrne, they seem to be out of compliance with WP:RS, as Deep Capture is owned and run by Patrick Byrne, seems to be a self-published blog by him and occasional contributors, where he takes out vendettas against people who cross him, rather than a reliable source, and with an obvious conflict of interest when used as a source to document any alleged public feud between them. I’m also going to delete the comment about him accusing her of giving blowjobs, since it was put in this blog, and is unnecessary in this WP:BLP. 2600:387:F:81B:0:0:0:C (talk) 15:50, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious edit

[edit]

I came across this article and noticed that there was a [non-primary source needed] warning. There were only two sentences in the paragraph that had that warning:

In 2005 Mclean got into a spat with Overstock.com CEO Patrick M. Byrne after she wrote a negative article about Overstock and him. Emails unsealed in the Fairfax Financial (NYSE:FFH) vs. SAC Capital, et al lawsuit revealed that McLean had been receiving assignments from a contact at Copper River Management.

The first sentence was easy to resolve. I added another reference and removed the primary source references since they were no longer needed. I could find no news articles supporting the latter sentence, only Patrick M. Byrne's blog and a press release by Overstock written by Patrick M. Byrne. I looked further and the second sentence was added by an IP address editor that's only made a single edit on Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bethany_McLean&diff=1060566208&oldid=1060495405

So it seemed best to remove the second sentence. It's unsourced and appears to have been the result of a hit-and-run edit. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 20:43, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
