Requested move 24 July 2018
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: consensus to move the pages to the proposed titles at this time, per the discussion below. There was a suggestion to add disambiguation by country, but WP:NCTV only suggests adding this "when there are two or more television productions of the same type and name." Here, the consensus shows that these are not productions of the same type. There was also an argument based upon page views that the TV program is the primary topic over the game show, but the consensus of the discussion was that there is no primary topic in this case. Please feel free to create a new disambiguation page at the plain title as necessary. Dekimasuよ! 07:03, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- Best of the Worst → Best of the Worst (TV program)
- Best of the Worst (UK) → Best of the Worst (game show)
– A couple of issues here: First, based on pageviews, the 1991 American TV program hosted by Greg Kinnear in not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC – this is basically a WP:NOPRIMARY situation, so it should not reside at the base title. Second, the 2006 UK TV show is incorrectly named as per WP:NCTV no matter how you slice it. It looks like the U.S. show is a "TV program", while the UK show is a "(panel) game show", so diambiguating these by those disambiguators seems appropriate. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 06:40, 24 July 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. - Oppose move to Best of the Worst (U.S. TV program) (edited to reflect IJ Ball comment below) In ictu oculi (talk) 11:35, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- This suggestion is doubly incorrect – first, as per WP:NCTVUS, it would be "U.S.", not "US". Second, the U.S. program is not a "series", it's a "TV program" – i.e. there are no "continuing story elements" with the Kinnear show, so it's not a "series". Your proposal would be correct if you proposed Best of the Worst (U.S. TV program), but if we do that, I fail to see why you wouldn't also propose Best of the Worst (UK game show). --IJBall (contribs • talk) 15:37, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- Perfectly okay with that. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:27, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support based on your descriptions of the shows then "program" and "game show" seem to be correct. Also NCTV for the rest. --Gonnym (talk) 22:24, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support a dab page at the base term, Red Letter Media#Best of the Worst can also be included which I suspect is what the majority of readers are actually looking for. —Xezbeth (talk) 12:12, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose first, Support second. The U.S. program is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC based on pageviews, so needs no qualifier. Red Letter Media could be added to the hatnote. Besides, a game show is a type of TV program, so I don't think they would work that well in clarifying the topics when used relative to each other, but "game show" is definitely clearer than "UK". Station1 (talk) 19:52, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Station1: It's really not – looking at the page views, the U.S. version does about double the page views of the UK game show. That's simply not enough to be considered a "primary topic" – for that, we usually want *multiples* of (like, times 5) as many viewers. Also, there are other candidates for "The Best of the Worst" besides the two TV shows (see Xezbeth, above), so disambiguating both is really the most advisable option here... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 03:29, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- It's actually triple, and that's plenty for me - "much more likely than any other topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined". Station1 (talk) 04:08, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- There is no way a short-lived non-entity of a show from the early 90s could be considered primary topic over anything else that has the same name. If you want to go the page view route, then RLM beats everything by an order of magnitude. —Xezbeth (talk) 05:19, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, but RLM would never be titled "Best of the Worst" so there's no title conflict there. If the BOTW section were ever split out, it might become the primary topic, but for now a hatlink to RLM will get people to that topic as quickly as they could get there through a dab page. Station1 (talk) 05:36, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- What about Best of the Worst: 93–97? That's 3 hatnotes now. Seems just forcefully unnecessary. --Gonnym (talk) 20:25, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- I added it to the hatnote. It looks ok to me, but if anyone wants to create Best of the Worst (disambiguation), that could be done. It doesn't change the primary topic, though, since that album gets less than one hit per day. Station1 (talk) 21:13, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

- Support Xezbeth's version. The pageviews [1] show that the American Version gets more page views, but not by much. Thus (as in the nom) it cannot be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC (the same can be said about the UK version). Dreamy Jazz talk | contribs 20:12, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support. The whole electronic entertainment industry is so interconnected across national boundaries that the disambiguation TV program and game show should be preferred. Andrewa (talk) 19:48, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
