Source?
[edit]Which are the sources for this? Odesa is not and never was part of Basarabia.--MariusM 02:43, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, these were funny and strange times. And Odessa was capital of BesSSR. Of course, I agree this unusual fact asks for a reference. Basically the reason is that BassSSR was based on the Odessa Military District (first period of existence: april-august 1919), which covered Bessarabia, Kherson gubernia and Taurida gubernia. And provisional government sat in Odessa. `'mikkanarxi 17:31, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- I wonder if it was like a government in exile. De facto Basarabia was under Romanian control in 1919, were some communist basarabians emigree in Odesa establishing a kind of government in exile? Why a republic which include Kherson and Taurida (and don't include de facto Basarabia) should be named Bessarabia SSR? A more logical name should be Odesa SSR. I know that Moldavian ASSR was formed by bessarabians emigree, I wonder if the history teached in Soviet time in Moldovan SSR mention this Bessarabian SSR. Hope you will come with sources.--MariusM 18:32, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- It was not "govt. in exile". It was "government to be" or "planned govt.". The republic did not include Kherson/Taurida. I was listing the area of Odessa Okrug. In these times it was common habit for Soviets to create short-lived Soviet republics wherever the Red Army entered (or planned to enter) a territory. Another very similar example is Galician Soviet Socialist Republic and even more ephemeral Polish Soviet Socialist Republic, and there were more of them. Bessarabian ssr is not mentioned in soviet encyclopedias (their texts are online, so I checked), since it was not a piece of glory. Most probably I got this piece of info when I was reading Davies, Norman, White Eagle, Red Star: the Polish-Soviet War, 1919-20, Pimlico, 2003, ISBN 0-7126-0694-7 , but I am not sure. I will double-check when next time in the library. A vague confirmation may be found here [1] . `'mikkanarxi 20:02, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- I thought this was about the Tatarbunar Rebel Government of 1924. I thought that was called the Bessarabian Soviet Socialist Republic. In any case an article should be made about that as well.Dapiks 23:49, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- See Tatarbunary. In Soviet books it was simply "Tatarbunary Uprising". `'mikkanarxi 00:10, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw it under the article Tatarbunary. I took that section, added sources and moved it to an article on its own. That section was being ignored there and I think it deserves more attention. I have also read of a Tighina uprising in june 1919, 6 months after the Hotin uprising in january. I plan to write something on that as well but sources seem to be lacking on the subject.Dapiks 00:32, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

To summarize: Mikka told that Bessarabian SSR was "government to be" or "planned govt.". However, it never achived what it planned. I am not familiar with events in Odesa, but I know events in Bessarabia. In 1918 it was already under Romanian control. People from Odesa, either made some plans which were never achieved, either they organized a short-lived soviet republic, but not in Bessarabia, in Odessa (it should be called Odesa SSR). The fact that "Bessarabian SSR is not mentioned in soviet encyclopedias" (quote from Mikka). I believe this is an indication that this republic never existed. A Bessarabian Republic existed indeed, but in 1917-1918 Upson Clark - THE CREATION OF THE BESSARABIAN REPUBLIC, it was not a soviet Republic, and united with Romania in 1918. I believe this article should be deleted.--MariusM 20:01, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
