As Council leader during the Broadwater Farm riot of 1985, in which a policeman, PC Blakelock, was killed, he was brought into the national eye. He was widely quoted as saying "What the police got was a bloody good hiding"

That is somewhat misleading - what Grant actually said was that a lot of the people in the Broadwater Farm area believed that what the police got was a "bloody good hiding". He was reporting the popular view in the area, not specifically saying that it was also his view. StanPomeray (talk) 22:45, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
