Bernese Highlands → Bernese Oberland – Wikipedia:COMMONNAME. It was moved in 2016 by ZH8000 with edit summary "correct, non-mixed-up English term". It is true that "Bernese Oberland" combines an English adjective and a German noun, which may be surprising for Swiss people or German speakers generally, but despite being "mixed-up" it is the established English name. The implication in the lede that the name is restricted to the "tourism sector" is disproved by Google Scholar hits. jnestorius(talk) 22:47, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Clear common name in English-language sources. Yes, it's mixed-language, which is usually horrible, but the fact remains that it is the common name. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:11, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Oberland is much more common in English and many sources which use Highland(s) will also use Oberland right next to it. Tobyc75 (talk) 13:08, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. Since it is – like Necrothesp says – a horrible mixed-language term. -- ZH8000 (talk) 13:38, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Indeed it is, but it still meets WP:COMMONNAME. We shouldn't make up such terms (as I have frequently seen editors do), but we certainly should use them if they are used outside Wikipedia. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:20, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Support No native English speaker calls the region “Bernese Highlands”. Indeed Googling “Bernese Highlands” exclusively returns hits for “Bernese Oberland” with the exception of the Wikipedia article. From an English standpoint, Bernese Highlands is an entirely made up name.
