[edit]Goldworthy in Tom Mboya: The Man Kenya Wanted to Forget indicates that Mate ran on the KANU ticket in the 1961 elections and switched to the KADU side of the aisle after the election in return for being appointed to one of the Ministries. page 181. The implication is that he also was a KANU candidate in 1957. He was in fact made a minister on 7 April 1962 Kenya Gazette Vol. 64, No. 16 page 420. --Bejnar (talk) 19:47, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
