Notability
[edit]Bernard Amadei received the 2009 Award of Excellence from Engineering News-Record (ENR). This is their highest individual award (formerly called Man of the Year). ENR is a reliable, secondary source. The publication has been in business for more than 100 years. It's independence from Dr. Amadei cannot be questioned. It is a widely-circulated weekly publication (80,000 copies). Dr. Amadei was the subject of an 8 page article outlining his accomplishments that led to this award and the results of his establishing Engineers Without Borders (USA).
Further, his membership in the National Academy of Engineering establishes his notability in the profession of engineering. He is also a recipient of the Hoover Medal. - ¢Spender1983 (talk) 19:20, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
I have no idea whether this is the proper place or if anybody will even read it. I edited the what I'll call the lead-in bio section to reflect two new items. After wading through the arcane and nowhere succinctly explained formatting characters I tried to add footnotes by example. The footnotes themselves wound up in the text as written. Finally after an hour's worth of time I tried a set of odd symbol combinations that did in fact remove the footnote text from the body copy and even assigned them [5] and I believe [6]. But when I checked the footnotes by the corresponding number they were predicated by a ^ sign but my sources were nowhere to be found. I have a feeling that they should have been added as [10] and [11], --who knows. I would have tried that but now the edit tab didn't let me return to that section of text. I hope my footnote sources are preserved in my original edit for Wikipedia to correct and properly show. To add two sentences of information has cost me about three hours trying to document it. I give up. It appears that to write a whole new article would be even worse.
I'm going to guess this stuff is what's called "html". A person shouldn't have to labor through all that symbolism to add to an article, let alone contribute a new one. Perhaps if it is absolutely necessary, clear simple examples should be furnished on the edit page as to how to easily construct the footnote references. Or at least links that don't have reams of dialogue explaining what then requires more explanation to divine. To make a contribution to Wikipedia shouldn't require geek-land folks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WritetoBe (talk • contribs) 00:00, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
