Dust jacket copy?

The "About the Book" section reads like it was copied from a dust jacket. I haven't been able to find a copy yet to check, but even if not, it doesn't seem to be NPOV... Valrith 19:33, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Plot Summary is simply wrong.

It claims that Samson "is tasked to undertake the crucial rescue". He is, in fact, ordered to do everything in his power to keep Brahms 4 in East Berlin (and is told not only is his career dependent on his success, but so is Brahms 4's life).
It claims that Frank Harrington is potentially the mole. While it is true that Frank might be [a] mole, he spends almost no time in London and Samson never considers him as a suspect for the high ranking mole.
It claims that Bret is spending "an inordinate" amount of time with Fiona. In fact, the only time Samson is aware of that Fiona and Bret spent together is a single dinner, possibly a working dinner - although at a hotel restaurant.
It fails to mention that one of Samson's primary suspects is his wife. Deighton goes to great lengths to mention her Communist beliefs as a young adult, the fact that she wasn't thoroughly vetted, and her growing distance from her marriage to Samson -all done in the context of Samson's thinking about her.
It claims that he travels to E.Berlin to help Brahms 4 escape. He travels to Berlin to investigate an incident from years earlier which suggest one of his close associates leaked information to the Communists (USSR) and while being tasked to talk 4 into staying. There Brahms 4 tells him he has a note hand-written by the mole, and Samson recognizes/realizes(?) 4's description of his wife's handwriting. It isn't at all clear how the KGB/Stassi are able to track him and 4 in E. Berlin, especially after they flee - this seems to be a major plot hole. His wife has nothing, afaics, to do with this, since Samson didn't tell anyone in London how he was getting out.(This last point, I'm not 100% sure of. Although I just read the book, I'd have to reread those sections to confirm that the Commies had too much information which no one individual except Samson himself, had access to. ... I suppose it's possible that in the phone conversation he had with his wife AFTER he knew she was the mole, that he told her what he was planning, and exactly how he was planning on escaping. Note that this phone conversation prompts Fiona to flee London, doesn't seem as if she'd also have had time to set him up as well... )71.30.23.92 (talk) 19:11, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
