etymology

[edit]

I'd love to know the etymology of the word. 'Berg' is obviously of German roots, but what does 'shrund' mean? Is 'bergshrund' a word from some Swiss-german dialect, maybe 'Berndeutch'?

Added etymological roots at the beginning. Schrunde means fissure, but Schrund (without the <<e>>) itself isn't in high German if I'm not incorrect, so it's probably a dialect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.13.25.19 (talk) 20:30, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
