[edit]I have seen a operating Benjys store in Portsmouth recently. I dont know if it a different Benjys or not. Unisouth 19:16, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Same here I saw one still open as well in Leeds even though I thought all their stores were meant to close down. Are there some franchise stores now operating as independent sandwich shops but still using the Benjys name perhaps? I haven't been to London recently were the vast majority of Benjys seem to be and have they closed down? This is something which needs to be cleared up for the article. --Wrh1973 15:05, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
They went into administration in 2006 and were bought by James Caan (the Dragon, not the actor!). He couldn't make a go of it, and they closed down again in 2007. I guess some might still be trading if they've been bought again, or people have bought individual sites and are running them under the old name, but I think they're dead and gone. Shame, nice food.
The current article seems to be a puff piece written by someone associated with the original owner Paul Benjamin (e.g. the history stops at 2000, when 'Benjy' sold out). I would also be very surprised if he was indeed the 'inventor' of the 16oz coffee cup, or the 'torpeado' (can't tell if this is a mis-spelling, or he's claiming to have invented a new way to spell 'torpedo'!)? Also 'Paul Benjamin' in the article links to an American actor of the same name - surely the can't be the same person? 82.44.88.178 (talk) 10:17, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Benjys used to sell a tub of 'shi noodles' which was really cheap and simple, just noodles with grated cucumber and carrot that came with a sachet of chili powder and a sachet of soy sauce. It was the best thing in the world! I can't recreate it! They stopped making it and I don't know why.
How much did James Caan pay for Benjy's???
[edit]Does anybody know how much James Caan paid for Benjy's??? Thanks in advance to anybody that knows.
Why is there no mention of Shi Noodles?
[edit]I have been having withdrawal for nigh on 5 years! Best noodle salad ever. The popularity of this cold noodle dish and the public grief when it was discontinued needs to be documented! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.144.88.41 (talk) 22:22, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
