Benjamin Pierce was the last surviving child of the Pierce's. The first two children were killed by disease. Benjamin died on January 6, 1853 in a train accident. He was nearly decapitated in fron t of his parents. His mother, Jane Pierce, thought this happened so Franklin could have a presidency without family problems. Franklin, however, thought this was a revenge for his sins.
