"Belmont's nationally-renowned music business program is the only one of its kind, though comparable programs can be found elsewhere. - This could use some explanation, as is it sounds contradictory 160.39.190.180 22:56, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Who is Dr. Larry Hall? Is he notable in some way that other professors at Belmont are not? Does his erudition or accomplisment in political science indicate the creation of an article describing is achievements? --Chiacomo 06:10, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Went ahead and removed Dr. Hall as no one seemed to volunteer information. He appears to be no more notable than any other professor at Belmont. --Chiacomo 04:59, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
This is a very poor description of Belmont. Historically it makes many false assertions, and it makes Belmont sound as if it only offers music related programs. As for Larry Hall, he is the dean of the college of arts and sciences.
- Thanks for your edits of this article! The best fix for false assertions and narrowly focused articles is for editors to be bold! I would argue, however, that if Minnie Pearl graduated from Ward-Belmont, a predecessor to Belmont University, she could be considered a Belmont alum... I believe Ward-Belmont alumni can request a diploma with "Belmont University" on them so the distinction is probably pretty trivial. --Chiacomo (talk) 30 June 2005 03:54 (UTC)
- Ward-Belmont College is more properly considered a predecessor to Harpeth Hall School than it is Belmont Univeristy. Ward-Belmont and Bellmont largely have two commonalities: Belmont is located on the site of the former Ward-Belmont campus, and both were/are educational institutions. Ward-Belmont was more of a finishing school for young ladies than a true institution of higher learning in the modern sense. So I think that the differentiation is more than trivial.
Rlquall 00:46, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
- In the same way, it is misleading to say that Belmont started in 1890. That's when Ward-Belmont started. The modern, current institution started in 1951.
So who's excited about the new nursing building? I just went to the open house for it and can't wait to be using the facility! Perhaps someone can offer up more information than I have about the school--it's history before the new building (I believe our guide said that they had been in the basement of a church priorly with their labs in trailors!]. If I'm accepted this fall, I'll be able to contribute a lot more, but if anyone has any information besides sports and entertainment, it'd be great to add! .:Allie
Good points all around on the discussion here. There is still a ton of incomplete information regarding Belmont University on this page that I would like to document and include. Belmont's relationship with Ward Seminary, Cumberland College, and the Tennessee College for Women are notably absent. There is (little or) no mention of the Belmont Mansion or the historic tower that appears in the university's logo. If you are monitoring this page and the Belmont University entries, all I ask is that you be patient with me and hold me accountable for documentation and attribution of my entries. My goal is to elevate the depth and accuracy of the information here and to maintain a high degree of objectivity. --bruingeek 11:33, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
It's 2018 and Founding History detail is still missing
My title says it all - after seeing notations here since 2007. It is now 9 years since I first looked at this page for my youngest daughter and 4 since graduation with little History change. We were handed full history and biographies when we first toured Belmont. It is extensive. Some is on their website. The full history still does not appear here 9 years later, even though Google puts Wikipedia on top. The page is poorly written considering it is highly rated college. Belmont and President Bob Fisher (Robert Fisher (university president)) would be aghast. I'm not going to write this page for Belmont. I've already gone through the pain of straightening out another college's extensive missing Wikipedia history. Assignor (talk) 15:09, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Mascots
The List of U.S. college mascots references that there's a live bear mascot named Bruin. I don't see any mention of him/her in the article. Can somebody confirm? —C.Fred (talk) 02:38, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Belmont University's mascot and athletic logo features a "bruin". The costumed bruin mascot is nicknamed "Bruiser" or "Bruiser the Bruin" (the two are used interchangeably). Although the history of Belmont Mansion and the estate of Adelecia Acklen includes references to a "Bear (or Bruin) House", there is no live bear on the campus of Belmont University. An unconfirmed report hinted that the Nashville Zoo housed a bruin that was/is sponsored by the university. As of this writing, that report remains unconfirmed. --bruingeek 11:08, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
During construction for a new dorm during the summer of 2009, remanants of Adelicia Acklen's Bear House and Bowling/Billiards Building were uncovered just east of the Belmont Mansion. The new dorm on that site was named "Bear House" in official ceremonies in August, 2010. Belmont Univerity News Article: Belmont Names Two New Residential Halls

Organizational Assessment
I feel like the overall flow of the article is somewhat scattered. The page goes from academics to music programs, proceeds to jump around random places and ends with corporate structure. I feel as if the page should conform to guidelines set forth for university articles.
A structure going like so:
Overview, History (subcats: mansion, TBC), Admissions, Academics (subcats: US News and World Report Profile stats, Departmental Overviews), Athletics, Governance, 2008 Presidential Debate, List of Notable Alumni, Links, References, etc...
Thoughts?

Multiple reference superscript errors, particularly within the first few sections, are present. They appear to dead/bad reference links within the text. David G. (talk) 16:28, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Serious Style and Quality ReWrite Needed
I was somewhat disappointed to see the Belmont University page, especially when compared with other such institutions of equal quality. Many items that should be current here are 2006, 7, 8, or 9. I feel unqualified in knowledge to fix this particular page although I have a student at Belmont. I prefer to defer to those with both insider knowledge and writing skills. While the page must neither become an advertising piece nor a booster piece (thus keep in the dirty laundry gender discrimination that hit the national news and the Baptist legal issues), I would strongly consider that Belmont Wikipedia "editors" consult the Belmont Public Relations department to help clean up the facts and provide proper and consistent writing style. They have full resource info handy. Belmont's history (and relationship to Nashville) is more than the well known mansion. Its development of educational programs is (briefly) of interest. Mention the huge outreach of Belmont students to tutor young city children. YES, to the writer on this page, Belmont's Music program, especially the unique and reknown Mike Curb Music Business School program, is so big that music consumes the major or minor of the majority of all Belmont students. Nowhere else in the USA do you daily see students everywhere, even in stairwells and elevators, suddenly jamming or doing impromptu vocal harmony. Mention that wierd school fact (linking it to facebook "You Know You Are At Belmont When"). Belmont's ties to the Nashville music community are unique, mention the constant on campus visits, class visits, and performances by major and minor performers and producers citing several. Mention also the greatly expanded state of the art nursing and pharmacy programs and the ties to Vanderbilt. Mention the unique animal decor on the campus quad, as a result of its original benefactor. Mention the bell tower itself, not just the bells, and its significance in Towering Traditions. Shoot and include other pictures (original pics are easier to license under creative commons.) Hopefully these hints will bring together a team of Belmont persons who can turn out a quality informational Wikipedia page for those who search online. Assignor (talk) 03:37, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Rankings and recognition & Academics changes
I made some changes to the Academics section. Under Rankings and recognition, I updated and expanded on the US News & World report rankings for the institution based on the new rankings for 2018. I've also updated the student profile information that was included from Belmont's fact book located here: http://www.belmont.edu/oair/factbook/index.html. I also updated the Academic programs section with an updated number of degree programs. Lougan (talk) 22:06, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
