[edit]While the F-109 designation was never officially assigned by the USAF, the F-101B interceptor version of the Voodoo and the Bell supersonic VTOL were likely candidates.

Designation
[edit]Angellucci (The American Fighter, page 57) calls this aircraft the Bell XF-109 (Model D-188A). He does not say whether this is official or unofficial. XF3L is not mentioned but the US Navy request is. Evidence anyway of the designation at least relating to this aircraft. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 16:57, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
