"Indirect remake of Vittorio De Sica's 1948 classic The Bicycle Thief"
[edit]I think this claim needs a more authoritive source than the one given in the article, which is merely a review. It needs to be supported by statements from the director or writer. LDHan 09:29, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- How about: "Thought to be an indirect remake of..."? Of course a more authoritative source, once found, would be even better. --Plastictv 12:20, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've changed it to "According to one review, it is an "indirect remake" of Vittorio De Sica's 1948 classic The Bicycle Thief" for now. LDHan 23:21, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've added two more sources. LDHan 23:56, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Translation of 十七岁的单车
[edit]I have heard (through Chinese friends' word of mouth; I don't have a verifiable source as of yet) that 单车 is also slang for 单身汉 "bachelor," and that the Chinese title of the movie can be translated as "the 17-year-old bachelor" (which makes sense insofar as the conclusion of the movie is pretty much precipitated by Jian's being angry over having gotten dumped...although perhaps that translation puts more focus on Jian than on Gui, who is equally important to the plot). I'm just wondering if anyone else working on this article a) is a native speaker who can corroborate this, or b) knows of a good source online somewhere that we could cite in this article. Edit war
[edit]Notice to other editors: User:Jonathonquil is currently involved in an edit war here. He has repeatedly added the following unsourced and speculative content to the article:
- The climatic scene that takes place between the americanised Beijing youth and the two protagonists could possibly symbolize China's precarious relationship with the United States of America; perhaps sounding a warning that modern urban China's (symbolised by Jian) provocation of the US will lead to negative consequences for rural China also (symbolised by Guei).
The user has been warned multiple times and has repeatedly added this information (at least three times now) since his final warning. He has also violated 3RR. The user is operating an account with no purpose other than to add this same sentence to this article over and over again. He has been reported to WP:AIV, but I'm just giving other editors here a heads-up. —Politizer talk/contribs 00:09, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- Never mind, Magioladitis just blocked him. —Politizer talk/contribs 00:10, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Assessment comment

This remains a start article, in my opinion, because the interpretation and reception sections are not large enough. I want to know how the movie was received elsewhere, and what specific changes were made when it was finally released in China. Also, more inline cites are needed.--Danaman5 17:03, 23 April 2007 (UTC) |
